I've actually have had to turn saddles around to get a little bit of extra travel if I couldn't get the intonation right.

The whole fucking bridge can be stuck in your pocket and taken to church on Sunday, why would you need to turn the saddle around to get an extra 1/16th of an inch out of it, instead of just sliding it back ever so slightly?
And why would only the top three strings need that extra little bit?

Ummmm question #1 ..... can't slide the bridge on a les paul
question #2 for the same reason that acoustics have the saddle on a slant or even have a compensated bridge with the G string having a section that's offset from the rest of the bridge.
