Hey I thought this was supposed to be a "crappy" song thread. These songs are better than my full blown stuff.
Oh well, never one to pass up a chance to make an ass of myself.....

This is four tracks,no bouncing,no talent.A song(?) I've been considering redoing.

I'm going to get some gas and matches and go burn my gear now:rolleyes: ....

Yeah, I would if I were you:p :D (Revenge is mine:rolleyes: )

I think you should re-do this today and see what happens.

Bruce, I just listened to Money. Outstanding cover man. I dig the sax. Two thumbs up and a snap.:D

Man.. that's really '80s..
I think it would have had some real hit-potentials back then.

Hi

Thanks. The song was quite popular amongst our friends during that period. Those were the good old days.

I've got BOXES of these old tapes. I'll dig a few out and see what happens.

Not The Greatest

good example of how songs don't have to be over the top over produced or slick or hi tech or have some monster hook and come out and yell at us all the time. Not pretentious. It is what it is, and it's intelligent, introspective, fun, original, and still sounds good and comes accross with some personality. That's why this thread has soul. F u mr. A&R man, we got what we need right here.

Think I was using a Tascam and a radio shack condensor and a SM50 to pick up the amped vocals and guitars, placed around the drum kit... not bad for a bunch of wasted college kids learning to play :D .

First one is from 1996, written by John Cooke from Binghamton New York (yeah, he likes Primus alittle too much)... it's called Peter Pan. I play rhythm.

Second one is an improvised piece recorded in the college dorms (SUNY Albany, NY) sometime in 1995 on the same gear (and better pot :p ). Matt Salaverry playing bass and singing, Sung Min Mo on electric lead/slide, Craig Hedgecock on drums (he's blind FYI), and myself playing rhythm. This one I affectionately named Weird... mostly thanks to Sung's slide work and the reggae ending. lol

Thankfully most of us have gone on to make decent livings doing things unrelated to music.

Did you hire Deep Purple to come and play this for you or something? Very good production too, for the style.

LOL! Deep Purple? No, just a couple of guys drinking beer in the garage one afternoon. The bass & drums were tracked together: one omni dynamic directly above the drummer's head, and a line out from the SVT to the 414. Bass was a Rick 4001. There's a lot of bass bleed on the drum track. I did the bass, guitars, & vocal. I think the key to that track was the dwarf car, and motorcycles parked in the garage while tracking.;)

Millenium: Sounding very full with just vox and bass; very inventive and right to the point. Nice lyrics.

That was all done by the drummer on "Don't Stone Me". If you listen close you can hear the traffic sounds in the background. It was done with a funky Rudy Sarzo bass ( a real log), a Beyer M69, and a Boss stomp-box compressor. The 'verb you hear is the spacious kitchen where we lived at the time.

Yes, please!

So many tapes, so little time! :D

Thanks for the review!:)

i doubt this will get heard, but this one is 2 years old when i first got my 4 track. www.nowhereradio.com
its called butterfly. done live off the floor.

hey F_CKSIA, thanks a lot for doing that, i've always wanted to hear drums on something i recorded.

Now this is a cool thread, though it looks a bit neglected...

I had fun last summer employing just this kind of thing... did a new CD of a bunch old stuff rescued from my old Vestax 6-track tape machine. Here's some comparisons for ya:

The original mix from the tape:

then the remake, using some of the original tracks and sweetening with new tracks recorded fresh in Nuendo:

The "Blue Room" tune at those 2 pages is another example of that process. All in all I like the mix of the 2 technologies, cuz I got what felt like "good energy" from the original, with the sonic improvement added by the new tracks...

Hey, let me know if those links work for y'all, cuz they ain't for some reason for me right now (here at work... ;) )
