Groovy tune!
If it isn't saturated with tape hiss, it wasn't from the heart. :)
This isn't the worst by a long shot. YOu should remake this, it's a cool tune. I bet you could even use some of the tracks.

Really moody.. in the best ways. Like Dylan/Springsteen/Knopfler/Talking Heads in a blender, or something. Cool dirge. :)

C

We got a lot of requests for that one when we played bars, which was pretty cool since usually this town is death on bands that do original stuff.

Did you win her back with the tune Jag:D . Ahh those old "break up" song's...we can laugh at 'em now eh? Were'nt too damn funny at the time though huh?!:D 1983? your an old fart too!:D Good one Jag!

Thanks David :)

Well actually, I did half way through writing the song. For a summer. Then she did it to me again and I finished the song :D.

Funny thing is I truly loved her (think I still do actually), but I was a young and stupid kid yet (18-19 she was 3 years younger than I) and I didn't treat her properly. Nothing bad, mind you, but you know...college and all. I don't think I really knew how to treat a girl back then. No one ever trained me in that :D. Plus she was probably more mature than I was back then. :D Strange thing is, I probably would have married her if given the chance. She was a very nice & attractive girl (a rare combo ;)). Oh well. Chalk one up for being a stupid kid. Anyway...I found another one, even better :D.

And yes I am an old fart. And proud of it :D

HEHE...thanks, glad you liked it. I digitized that from a stereo cassette master (I think it was the master anyway). That is now a 20 year old cassette tape :D. Lots o hiss & some data loss. :D. That reel to reel tape is long gone by now, I'm sure. :D.

I've toyed with redoing this song, but in my mind it would need a major rewrite. Not sure if I want to invest the time in that anymore. Maybe if I'm bored some time :D. But it does step out of my usual, current style...so...hmmm...never know :D. Besides, this crappy recording of a not so great song (IMO) is part of my legacy now. I used to play that tape (as it sounds right now) in a night club where I DJed in college. Hey, people danced to it, and some folks came up to ask me what it was and thought it was pretty good. So maybe it wasn't tooooooo bad :D. LOL

I need to dl the rest of these tonight and start listening to them at work the rest of the week :D

OK, a few years later....

Two track recording:

Free jazz

No, I don't mind if you turn it off after 50 seconds....it goes on and on and on and on. Drumtrack was a drumsolo by a friend. I don't wanna guess how old he was back then...

(note: I hated jazz back then....I liked C L A S S I C A L music...this was my attempt to prove it was all nonsense, this jazz music.....pathetic pretentious little 15 year old prick........nowadays I listen to lots of jazz :) )

A little bit later...a more serious attempt....with a Vestax 4 track and a Mac (used as a sequencer to control my Roland keyboard)

January 43rd (yep, that was the title)

O, most of my stuff ended like that....don't know why.

:)

Pedullist-
Cool man, the jazz track was interesting. Nice playing - for a fifteen year old. :) With all respect, you were right; after 50 seconds I was looking for a change. That was cool man.

If music were like an athletic competition...

I'd be in the special olympics. :( ;) :o
Very cool thread, but the songs are'nt crappy enough.
Track rat
Must've sold his soul to the devil or something like that.

Hey I thought this was supposed to be a "crappy" song thread. These songs are better than my full blown stuff.
Oh well, never one to pass up a chance to make an ass of myself.....

http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/album.php?aid=2058&alid=668

This is four tracks,no bouncing,no talent.A song(?) I've been considering redoing.

I'm going to get some gas and matches and go burn my gear now:rolleyes: ....
I assume you are not looking for mix comments. :D

If the question is should you resurrect it, the answer is by all means!! I like the song. Can't comment on the lyrics because the vocals were either a) overprocessed, b) recorded on a Fisher Price mic, c) recorded in a ceramic-tiled bathroom with the shower curtain and all towels removed, d) all of the above. :)

Seriously, I would very much like to hear what you could do with this today.

S0. . . . is it done yet?

Hevy - Delay pedal

Heard this last night... some really cool FX... I had an analog delay, but sold that f*&%er on e-bay :( Great stuff!

Jagular -running out of time

Some artifacts... but in NO WAY the worst... good stuff.. heh... that's a killer lil synth there. Voice is clearly, clearly kickass... so... whutyoutalkinbout? This is NOT crappy :) 83, eh? A good precursor to those rap songs with that li'l hip-hoppy synth thing there :) (or maybe "Say You'll Be There" by Spice Girls?  :D) Decent guitar. An epic of Styx-like proportions.

acidrock - lucy

What?? This is clean as a nun's bum  not crappy ;) Ha! The vocs are drowning in chorus tho, eh? Perfectly cool 4-track! Nice acoustics!!Dancing naked on the lawn... it's not right... she kind of turns me on. Ha ha... the "participant school of soloing" there at the end. lol... nice :D

caryindy - vicious cycle

Ok, here we go... a live recording... some really, really cassette 4-tracker sound there... swingy... listen to that singer belt that out. Cool instrumental break... guitar w/keys following... some e-bow? Or just feedback? Nicely done.

David Artis - fool for love

Not dirty... low in volume, but very nice recording. Sounds like the 70's... say... do you and "Track Rat" hang out?? :D Wolf-man Jack singing is making me laugh some... but then my early singing induces puke... so this isn't bad at all :) Great musicianship there. Perfectly rock-out outro... No embarassment here.

Pedullist - hates jazz

Lovely muffle!! :D Oh, this sounds so SARCASTIC   :) j/k... walky bass... guitar all over... spastic drums... but .. what's wrong w/that?? :D Cool, even when trying to mock ... how's that for irony?

Pedullist - wises up ;)

Way cool. Hey... here's a redo-er?! Love that choo-choo whistle like synth thing. The rhythm is sweet... great bass... instead of the trumpety-melody, why not sing something? Some more of those lovely "lyrics" of yours?? :D Seriously, this is cool... in that "Age Of Aquarius", timeless way.

Chad

[EDIT] BTW Thanks to Doug H, sjcrts, and acidrock for hearing "Tumor", and HevyD47Ca for hearing "Rainy" without puking!! :D (or, maybe "puking" and not saying anything!! :D  :o :( ;))

...The idea is: something old and primative and embarassing from your old Portastudio days when you didn't know anything - when you didn't even *know* that you didn't know anything - and just set the mic up and opened the beer/packed the bowl/cut the lines/cooked up the shot/etc. and just slapped something sloppy and ugly and REAL on tape.

C'mon, I know you've all still got those old cassette tapes and I know you listen to them once in awhile.

So let's hear em! Not for critique, just for fun. Of course if critique happens that's cool too I suppose. Anyway, I'll start it off.
...QUOTE]

Great idea, who doesn't like low-tech and cool performance?

But I look over and I see 500 cassettes and I don't know what to do. If I even open those boxes, there goes any productivity for a few weeks, months,... I do have one in mind, but that's just as bad since i'll have to do a search.... In the mean time, I'll tune in what's here, sounds like mucho fun. -j

Okay, ....Portastudio that occasionally just erased whole tracks for no reason. Added an element of danger to the whole process.

"The Final Friday Night"

Crappy? You callin' my recordings crappy? Well, I just listened to your's and now the one's of mine that I thought weren't crappy are now sounding kinda crappy. That's an entertaining song. A lot of funny lines, good for bar singing. Do you do it live? I bet it is a crowd pleaser.

Everyone around here puts down their stuff and then you listen to it and get amazed. What the hell is wrong with us? We are better than all that crap that gets downloaded from Kazaa, etc.

Can I cover your song live? Are you the sole owner of performance copyrights or did you license it to ascap/bmi ?

-j.

Still .....

Downloading ......

Just downloaded about 10 new tunes that I had missed...can't wait to hear them...

You all rock!

:D

Unlike computers, most tape machines had speed controls on it. Well, mine had one....still miss it by the way. I'm pretty sure every instrument (except the drums, although they sound a little freaky too) on 'Free Jazz' is sped up, played on a different - much slower - tempo....how's that, using tricks to prove an useless point? LOL :D (I'm so glad everybody ignored me back then, whenever I see one of those new kid stars on TV I'm even more glad....luckily there are no saved interviews of me in the most pretentious, closeminded, and dumbest period of my life.....*sigh* I wouldn't like to be remembered of it)

License? Copyrights? Um... that all has something to do with money, right? And money... that's that green stuff that helps you buy things, right? I've seen it once or twice....

Seriously J, I'd be honored to death to know someone was out there playing one of my tunes. Go for it. And if you record it, send me a copy.:)

Ah... 2 in the morning, everyone else is asleep... time to kick back and listen to some 4-track tunes!
