You have $500.00
You need to buy 2 mics and only 2 mics, no exception.

Both used for vocals.
Male vocals, r&b, rap...no screaming.
Dynamic or condenser, makes no difference.

Which 2 mics would you buy?
You cannot name 1 mic, must be 2, and must be $500.00 OR under.
 
ASk 50 people about mic options, and you'll get 100 different responses......!
 
yes, but youll also see some common denominators forming......

like say, a SP C1 and a really nice Dynamic........
 
Rode NTK (more color) and SP B1 (more neutral)
 
Here are my choices...somewhat unconventional in that it put most of the money in the dynamic.

MXL V67G
Electrovoice RE-20
 
Ok, I went and asked my fiancee for a little more out of our vacation funds, so...

Here's what I'm getting.

SP C1
CAD M177
Shure SM57
MXL V67 (Green & Gold)

I figured most people mentioned the C1, others mentioned a dynamic with it...so I got that, and then some.

I it a good choice?

All good choices. I've used the CAD M37, which is supposed to be similar to the M177 (if I remember right) and I really like it.

The C1 and V67 are supposed to be similar enough as to make owning both of them kind of redundant. I can't personally testify to that, because I've only ever owned the V67.
 
So can anyone suggest a mic that costs $99.99 that would be better choice than the v67?
 
is this for one vocalist to use?

if so Id pick the ONE mic that sounds best on that person, and put the rest of the $$$ into a nice preamp ........
 
Yes for vocalist, but I'm buying this for my HOME studio.

I am going to be stocking my amature studio this week...so I dont wanna go too indepth with this money, Cause I have a good budget to work with for later.

He's asking if you're the only vocalist. If so, there's no point in getting a bunch of mics. Just get one mic: the mic that sounds best on your voice. This is good advice regardless of your budget.
 
No, Im not the only vocalist, there's more than 40 people total that will be using these mics, or the one in the studio.
 
at $99 or under:

Shure sm57
v67
v93M
SP B1


neither is really BETTER than the other.....they all do a great job, but better depends on the voice.......
 
The C1 and the CAD should cover your bases in terms of condensers -- They're both different enough to where I don't think you need any more.

With the $$ you have left, I might go with Bluebear's suggestion and grab a Beyer M88 or an M69 off ebay. Either one of those would give you that one "very good" dynamic vocal mic. Nothing wrong with the sm57, but it's just not at the same level.
 
There are other under 99 mics, but to say that one is definitly better than the V69 on male vocals is hard to say. If you are looking for a warm mic with lots of proximity effect then that is definitly it.

The C1 has much more of a reputation as a bright mic than a warm one so I would not agree with the assessment that they are redundant.
