I'd second the AT 4040 - it just seems to sound good on everything you put in front of it, without adding too much perceptible colour.

i don't even post here but 4 or 5 times a week and i know you're an idiot, ford van. get a new board to waste your life on.

Wait! You charge $7 an hour to engineer.

Don't have any studio pics.

Don't have any audio samples.

Offering to do demo's for gas money.

Boost Soundcraft Live 8 pre's as a selling point for a studio with a Fostex 16 track digital machine, for a studio called "Warm Analog Tube".

Have a "wish list" that includes room treatments.

Your best mic is a SP B1

Use monitors with 5" woofers.

List a "8 channel TS snake" on your equipment list.

And you are calling ME an idiot?

My oh my.....

hmm, i hate to bring this thread back but i was just looked at my user cp and saw that i'd posted on this thread.............. but i never did. i'm quite confused how this happened since my password isn't exactly easy to guess.

If you want a flat, uncolored and extemely quiet SDC, I'd highly recommend a Shure SM-81... one of the flattest, quietest, most dependable precision SDC mics on the planet.

Yo Philboy. I use AKG's a lot, and like them, but if I really wanted a flat mic, I'd buy an Earthworks omni, or much better, a pair. I agree that DPA are flat, and they'll make the Earthworks look very attractive pricewise. DPA's are pretty damned expensive, and they are, by all accounts, badass mics. I've only really heard them on a session with a hammered dulcimer player, and they rocked. A little bit of self noise just goes with a wicked small diaphragm, so live with it. Don't buy mics by frequency response graphs. To the graph, that Behringer ECM8000, and the DPA sound pretty much the same- in your dreams.-Richie

I love my 480's as drum overhead. Have a listen to a live jazz piano trio with a 421 on kick and a pair of 480 with cardioid capsules in XY over the set.
