I read some reviews on sempron and the benchmark scores were higher than celeron's at the comparable price. You should get that memory checked out. It many not have been properly seated and when you installed the new modual you moved it and caused it to register. you may want to check that its all the way down

I bought a 512 stick off my brother and now for some reason it says its got like, 702mb or somethin (doesnt quite add up.)

its probally got onboard video which is taking it from your 768.
