c7sus- well, i'm not making a killing on them, but i'm making a little. If i can sell enough of them, i can buy a new peice of gear!

chingon - Yes i can make it with a front and back. been thinking about that myself. I could even make mixer boxes for mixers...pretty much anything along the SKB lines I can do in wood a little cheaper i think.

I'll have pictures tomorrow of the three that I just made. Two of them are still available if anyone wants one...e-mail me. other sizes are available

Look'n Good

Yo JayBird, that Rack looks great. I do nto have a need for one right now but if I did, I'd get one from you.......

I'm gonna check how the financial situation is doing after I get paid tomorrow, and hopefully get one of these from you :D Do you have pics of the different colors you're doing?

Guys....I'm almost overwhelmed at the response I've gotten from everybody. I have gotten a lot of interest in these. I think that I can make about 20 of these a day. I have a great idea for a gig rig type unit. Slide a cover down over it, lock it together, and off you go. You'd be the man showing up somewhere with a really nice Oak rack, and no black plastic. Man, i'm thinking of going into business with just this type of stuff. 4, 8, 12, 16, 20 space racks. any kind of wood you want, any color you want. Wheels on them. I think i can patent my idea for the cover/ case for the gig set up. All this for maybe a little over half of what SKB is charging. I have a Sweetwater cat here, and SKB wants $315.00 for a mini gig rig. I could do one for $199.00. 4 space roto racks they want $80.00 for , i'd do for $55-$60 . They would all be stackable...I'll guarantee them for a year. I could always move into studio furniture. Quality furniture isn't cheap, but it doesn't have to be outrageous! I've been doing furniture for 4 years now, always better quality for a cheaper price than you can buy it somewhere.
I'll get more pictures up today....I'm excited about this! Remember, e-mail me JasonStarbird@att.net if you'd like one. My zip code is 83647 so you can figure shipping from your house. 18 pounds for a 8 space rack.

just a thought

I was actually planning on building a new rack before I ran into this thread. Nice rack you got there, btw.

how about a rack that can hold about 2-3 rack units tall, and have 2-3 of them lined up as one piece. see example here:http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7...6772386/g=home/search/d=tp?q=creation+station

that way people can save space and use them as comp monitor stand as well. anyway, just a thought. What do you think? possible? practical?

How much would you charge to make a mixer case (for gigging) for my Peavey 2318 mixer? Here's a link for dimensions http://www.peavey.com/products/proaudio/mixers/rq2318.cfm I would stain it myself or put rhino coat or something on it unless you have a better idea of how to protect the outside. My zip is 39842, shipping via cheapest means.

Second option. A rolling rack that would hold the mixer on top (with removeable cover) and 10U to 20U of rack space below. Removeable covers front and back. Unfinished and unassembled if possible. Whatcha think???

Yo Jason,
I want to be the man showing up somewhere with a really nice Oak rack. Maybe with a dark cherry type of finish. That way it looks expensive and people will want to pay me more. hahe. I'm trying to imagine how your slide covers would look like. I'm just wondering if it will still look like that picture you attached with the smoothed out rounded edges.

here's a picture of the rack i'm sending turnip..

Dig. Don - How about $75 for the mixer case, and you put on the Rhino lining. That will work great...And nice Mixer BTW.

A1A2 - Good idea..How about two 4 space racks on the ends, and a 2 space rack in the middle. That will be nice to have everything right there in front of you....$60. 00 for all three plus shipping. A great deal! I can do speaker stands also BTW...

Chingon - I hear ya man....I'll have to build one and post the picture...It will look just like these after you take the cover off. Very simple.

If you're going to make some travel cases then stock up on some real rack rails. I wouldn't trust wood rails too much for transporting gear around.

hey there Tex...I'll do that...I think I know where I can get some...I'd be willing to bet that the Oak ones would hold up though..
I have two more racks ready to go....who wants them. e-mail me...

JasonStarbird@att.net

Thanks to all!

Peace, Jason

Jason- There would probably be a big market for cheap sound iso cases. It would need to be a case big enough to hold a computer and maybe a power amp with some 703 insulation and a quiet fan. They sell for close to $1K but you could make one for less than $75 in materials.

Yeah, and Jason...once you finish shipping my rack, finish building my guitar stand and sound iso case, could ya put together a 20'x25' deck for my backyard? I'll pay material, if you pay shipping.... ;)

TexRoadKill,

I like that way you are thinking.

How about Jason Starbird's "Acoustic Nest" product line to quiet and comfort your chirping computer and pre-amp fans? Affordable rack with 703 insulation and casters. It's PERFECT for travelling to location recordings or for the guy that can’t separate his studio from his control room. Made in the USA. I like it.

I am an idea man. If I wasn't so stoned and lazy I would be a millionaire by now :( ;)

Well, obviously. SOMEBODY had to come up with the idea for you to get stoned and be lazy. ;)

Hey Jason, Seems like you've been busy.
What about some reccesed handles for the rack case? Something that matches the deseign of the box. Don't know what the hell i'm talking about but maybe the idea man (TEX) can give you some ideas. It would also give something else you could patten. I think I could do without extra peice of oak on top of the box. I would want this box to be as compact as possible (I'm limited in trunk space.) You said it would like like the other racks when the covers off. DOes that mean theres going to be an open space on the base too?
