you've got a Custom. That's a different story. Ebony makes all the difference.

I'm not sure what you mean by that, but my Custom does have an ebony fretboard. Anyway, I sincerely hope I never have to make that call, but the Paul would be #3 after the Strat and the Alembic.

I was referring to Dave's post about how fast his LP was. I wish all LPs had ebony fretboards. They just feel 'slicker' to me.

slick

notcardio.......... slick, smooth,fast,..... its like i dont even feel the frets.

I'm in the minority on this one, I don't like my Les Paul. I grew up on Ibanez and Jackson's so I'm used to lighter guitars with much thinner faster feeling necks. Just a preference thing. Mine is a Gibson Les Paul Custom Historic '57 reissue with aged hardware and the Burstbucker pups. Nice tone but I still prefer the tone from my Jem and my EBMM (I hear cries of sacrilige already!). Although I have to say is the best looking guitar I have ever played or owned.

les paul

superhuman......... thats ok we all like what we like.... i have my reasons.. and you have yours.....thats what makes us all different...... :D

I have two Les Paul Customs and a Fender Deluxe Stratocaster and to play all the guitars I own the most comfortable and fastest neck etc is an old Ibanez Blazer with a maple neck that I have a Dimarzio humbucker in.

My Les Pauls are great but if I had to keep one guitar for a 50 year stay on a desert island it would be my old workhorse the Ibanez Blazer... :o

Alright fine, I'll admit it! I love my LP std. Honestly, if things got realy shitty for me financially, it would probably be the very last thing I sold. It was my first real guitar, and, well to this day is my only real guitar.

It's not without it's problems though - I bitched about this in another thread (and it got largely ignored), but I'll bring it up here, to see if any of you have the same problem. My volume pots are very non-linear. 0-2= huge jump in volume. 2-7=not much of a jump. 7-10=not too bad. I've played other guitars, and the vol. pots are smooth and even, and it is SOOOOOOO nice. What's the deal with this?

pot's

andy........ maby gibson had a bad batch of pot's....... mine are very linear .....what year is your std ??

I'd guess mid 80s. I wanna say 86 or 7.

Also, the prob is much more noticable when using just 1 PU (which I tend to do). In the middle position (both PUs), it seems more even. I dunno. I had a guitar tech tell me that there are two ways to wire dual pickups- I don't remember the details. Anyway, he rewired mine, and it really didn't make much of a difference to me as far as this problem. I probably just need new pots.

I've sold two Les Pauls so far . . . :o an '88 Custom Special Edition, and a '98 The Paul . . .

If you're not happy with it, perhaps you should sell it to me...cheaply, of course. ;)

Heck, if the price was right, I'd even come over and pick it up. I've always wanted to go to Ireland, and what better excuse?

What color is it?

It's a Goldtop, looks amazing - very pretty. Too nice to play, honestly I've kept it in it's case pretty much since I got it. I prefer nasty guitars :D Looking at either a 7 or 8 string LGM Leviathon to replace it. Unfortunately the gods of capitalism are with me on this one... if you realy want it, you can catch it on Ebay!

What's the point of that? It might as well be nailed to the wall in a Hard Rock Cafe.

Love mine. Only problem...the rosewood fingerboard. I'm an aggressive player and am wearing into the board pretty severely. I'll be able to dress the surface of the board when I do a re-fret but only once. Next re-fret will mean a new board which will be ebony (big and expensive job...luckily I'll only charge myself the bottom line when I do it ;) ). My other rosewood boards have held up but my LP has a soft one...oh well.

Bougth it as an investment. Got it in the US, then brought it back home - these things cost almost double in Ireland. To get one and post it back home would cost about 100 bucks for shipping plus an additional 20% import tax..... you guys don't know how good you have it over there!
Played it a few times but just didnt like the way it felt, if I loved it I would be playing it every day but I'm too set it my ways now - 24 frets, ultra low action, thin fast necks...
