...That's not a nice feeling... /QUOTE]

I still feel like shit to this day about it.

The only times I feel comfortable mocking someone is when they are so evil that they deserve it. Like I wouldn't feel bad mocking Hitler. I don't feel bad about this joke (sorry but you have to pretend that Saddam Hussein is still alive):

Q: you find yourself in an elevator with Saddam Hussein, Osama Bin Laden and Kenny G. You have a gun but only two bullets. What do you do?

A: shoot Kenny G twice

I don't feel bad about that because I listened to one of Kenny's songs once and he still owes me for that. :)

lmao. yeah get in line, he owes me too. then again, saddam is dead, so....two headshots, one a piece? world peace, my friends.

This is the danger of Youtube, but also the ethos of youth culture today. The guy I was making fun of (really only in my first video, the rest I was making fun of myself) had obviously just learned his first song on guitar. But the video wasn't "hey listen to this song I just learned" it was "here's how to play SOTW". Which he couldn't play. What motivates someone who should know better to think they are qualified to make an instructional video? Answer: Youtube.

Fortunately, there was no Youtube when I started out :D :drunk:

jesus christ!

i didn't even read the last 3 or 4 posts cos it just doesn't matter what they say......

it turns out irony is genuinely something that ONLY british people get!!
i always though that was a joke.

this guy is tellin you what mic to buy, but at the same time, pointing his own mic the wrong way, and not even using it for the podcast.

that's funny!

it's cos nothing to do with dinty waking up in a cold sweat over impersonating rainman.
it's got nothin to do with race.
it's got nothing to do with this mans intention, skill, knowledge, sincerity, or anything else.
it's got nothin to do with whether or not this man is bragging.

it's JUST funny. full stop.

I did get a chuckle watching him speak into the top of the Mic. Children do stuff like this all the time, and we get a smile out of it. Theres no reason to be mean though, I'm sure he will feel dumb enough as it is.

that's fair enough, i'll go with that.

Yeah, another lesson to be sure you know what your doing before you post it for the world to see.

This is going back to 1971 when I was 14:

My parents used to send me to this two week music camp at a nearby university every summer. One time there was a guy there who was handicapped - he didn't speak normally, he looked odd... you get the picture. A friend of mine could do his voice pretty good and we all laughed. But there was this other guy that could do the guy's voice and mannerisms to the point that everybody's jaw dropped. You know when an impersonator can almost "become the guy"? Well that guy could do it like that. That guy was me.

All the students couldn't believe it. It was so dead-on that they got me to do it for the prof's at the university and they were stunned and impressed.

So one night I'm doing my new act out in the dorm hallway and everybody is laughing away when the guy, the guy I was mocking, came out of his room and I'll never forget what he said: "It's not nice to make fun of people".

whew

double whew

Complete silence, everybody put their heads down and went back to their rooms. What a fuckin' life lesson.

I have never felt like such a piece of shit in my life. Since then if I hear anybody making fun of someone else I feel like kicking their fuckin' head in.

Who the fuck are you? None of us is hot shit. Never make brownie points for yourself by mocking someone. That's so fuckin' low.

There's a saying: it's only funny if everyone laughs.

What I learned that day was: I have a lot of power. I can make people laugh. Don't use that power to make people gang up on someone. That's shit level.
I can understand why you are traumatized of making fun of people, you associate it with your story. :laughings::laughings::laughings:
No but I totally get you

Well, anyways. For all we know, the sound may just be coming from the camcorder he's using.

Yes, the mic is not pointed in the right direction. But that doesn't mean he's using it that way when podcasting. Does it?
And there is still no point making fun of him.

He's just trying to be nice and helpful to new podcasters. He's not giving them a comprehensive approach to mic positioning? Is he? No.

He's not a pro sound engineer, and does not pretend to be one either. So yes, he makes mistakes.

Have any of you guys, who make fun of him, have done anything to help other people start up (and not made any mistakes? I doubt it.

Am I trying to be the devil's advocate? Maybe, yes.

Cheers:rolleyes:

that's not a phrase we use over here, but i think the translation comes out as shit stirrer!!! :laughings::laughings:

don't get me wrong people,,,,,of course everyone of you is correct.

it's not fair to poke fun, and yeh, that guy is genuinely tryin to help people out which is becoming a rare enough thing these days,
and yes, i've made plenty of stupid mistakes, and i imagine i'll make many more..

thing is, i wont get real upset about it if someone has a chuckle, in fact, i kinda expect it, cos that's life.

Well I didn't even watch the video, but I try to be helpful. Last week, for example, I wrote this:

https://homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=309199

If you go back to 2003, you'll probably find some stupid posts I wrote. You learn as you go . . .
I try, though I don't always succeed, to go on the premise that even the most obscure and lengthy post or seemingly ridiculous footage will contain something that will be of use to someone, somewhere , if it's intention is to inform or educate and not just insult or have a pop at. Within that, sometimes, there may be an aspect of said post/clip that one may find amusing. And if one person can find something amusing, ten can. And if ten can, 100 can etc. There is often a fine line between being shitty to someone and highlighting the irony of a situation. But the line exists and I guess part of our growth as people is learning how to negotiate the fine line of life......

dinty, i was gona PM to say it was a joke, cos i didn't want you to think i was actually being a prick about your post + experience!

turns out i can't pm you? so i panicked and edited it out!:laughings:

glad you took it the right way tho.

Soon there will be two Internets! The one you see now with all of it's misinformation and impurities. And soon we will see a premium pay for internet that will have filtered this kind of thing ( along with customization of what and how you want to view subjects on the web) for a pure and true information highway.

Let just be thankful he wasn't showing a quality brand of toilet paper and demonstrating proper arse wiping technique......or we all would be in a world of hurt.

The MXL V67 is still in stock with most major outlets.

This Video could have been about anything and if there was anything wrong with the information given the pros or semi pros in that particular field would be quick to point out the untruths and debunk the fellow so as unknowledgeable peers would realize the folly.....have you every witnessed men of science going at one another while trying to prove/disprove theories?
It's no different than what we are seeing here.

Great! This thread is full of win! First someone brings up race, then we get Hitler into the mix...

So friggin unbelievably predictable.

Bit of a tangent here, I read that in the next ten years there will be something like 500 million more cameras, from traffic lights to microscopic(s) young people kinda know they may always be on camera, while my friends in their 70s are kinda freaked out by it. This type of thing may be no big deal for some, like so what, I look stupid on this clip, while someone else could be so embarrassed they wanna croak. I'd be embarrassed.

I haven't watched the video yet (I'm at work)

BUt this is why I add "this is true to the best of my knowledge and if I'm wrong please let me know, cause I don't want to spread misinformation." to the end of all my posts. I don't really want some self-righteous people making fun of something I said trying to help, but being misinformed myself.
