Moskus,

How much is 2300 Norwegian Kronor in USD? I can do SEK in my head (at ~10:1), but NOK is another story...

Was just curious if cakewalk is treating our Scandinavian friends with respectable low prices...

Chris

Cakewalk and low prices! :D :D :D :D :D

That's a good one. :D

Cakewalk, EUROPE, and low prices...
Our US friends practically gets it for free...
It's allmost like the street price in US is upgrade price in Europe - especially in Scandinavia...

I remember when I used to upgrade directly from TTS - using snailmail - how strange that you can't do it nowadays...

Anyway - I've put my upgrade order today.
Went with Sonar Studio...

Decided I had enough territory to cover from Pro Audio 9 to there..

Buying from Edirol in the UK I got S3 from 2 XL for 230 Euro. That is $ 266. Didn't have to pay postage because of preorder. Otherwise it would have cost another $25.

Remember we are world leaders in taxes here in Denmark at the moment. Sweden used to be number one, but the only come second now. So it is 25% sales taxes in Denmark (included in the above price), and before that there would probably have been something around 3% customs added to the price of S3 plus postage to Europe. So I don't think you can blame Cakewalk. The higher price here is determined by overseas postage plus our enormous taxes.

I bought my upgrade for close to $300, from Cakewalk directly it would have cost me half that, even with our taxes added you have a difference of more than $100. This is Cakewalks choice by not selling directly to their international customers, something they used to do. I don't think Roland Scandinavia does anything for me that I'd consider worth $100. In fact I would prefer dealing directly with Cakewalk even at the higher price! But it's Cakewalks product and it's my choice if I want to buy it for the price they offer it at the locations they choose - this time I think it's worth it. I would upgrade more frequently though if I still could get the US price. And I got to tell you, I've been close to crossgrading - even though I hate dongles...

Generally I'm a bit upset over the price difference of musical instruments and stuff in Sweden compared to the rest of Europe - but reality is catching up with the dealers here fast...

Good to hear about these issues. I was thinking of moving to Orebro with my girlfriend (from Skona)... guess if that happens, I'll be sure to do a full equipment upgrade here in the US before I go.

Tak,
Chris

Might be a smart choice. Just keep in mind that we run 230V / 50 Hz over here.

Orebro , nah, you'll want to move to the coastline somewhere. But I guess it's a place to start...
:)

Prices are dropping on musical instruments since we went into the EU - but we're still not at the US level and probably never will be. It's also a case of the stores here having ridiculous margins and expecting people to haggle, those customers that don't might throw away lots of money. Haggling is not really a part of Swedish culture so it's not something people will do by themself. A friend of mine that started out on electric guitar was shocked by the prices he got just using a phrase like "So how much can you REALLY let it go for." He started counting the money he lost the last year not knowing this, and I got a CD as a gift for showing him...
:)

Chris, I am Danish, but lived for 12 years in Sweden, and I can recommend it as one of the best places in the world you can choose to live in.

You will have to get use to a lot more taxes, but on the other hand you won't have to worry about paying health insurance, school fees etc. And once you and your girlfriend start getting children, I know of no better place in the world to have small children. Teenagers, however, may have more fun elsewhere, which is one of the reasons we moved back to Denmark. Still, my wife (Danish) is willing to move to Sweden again, anytime. I just need to say the word, and we're off.

I got it to day from ROLAND Scandinavia NORWAY!!!!!! Can't wait to try it out in my studio!!!!

Denmark isn't to shabby either...
I'm half Danish - my father was born on Jylland - so I've been there a lot. The only problem with these nordic countries is the snow and the cold this time of year...

I don't want my teenage daughter to have too much fun!

They were, but aren't. Now Sonar 3 Pro (not upgrade) costs ca. 6700 NOK wich will be around $840... Is that cheap? I think not... ;)

2400 NOK is ca $300...

Well, I have two sons. The eldest has had a week-end job as a bartender for a several years, and an incredibly large number of girls have passed through his bedroom because of that. To prevent his younger brother from taking the same course we made him wear dental braces. He is now 17, got the braces off 6 weeks ago. And last Saturday morning I bumbed into a nice young girl down in the basement where he has his room.

Just send over your teenage daughter, if you dare ... :p

I've got a nephew that's in bartending and it seems like girlstreams is an occupational hazard. Could it be some kind of Tom Cruise syndrom?

I showed my daughter your response and she went away humming "I'm going to Denmark - I'm going to Denmark...". But her cellphone went dead the other day and she doesn't seem to be able to be off the phone for more than an hour or so before going nuts - so I don't think she'll show upp...

And to put this back on topic:
Besides i need her to put down some backing vocals for me this weekend - when I've installed Sonar on my brand new harddrive...

Good Stuff

Sonar Three is great! I like the routing possibilities and even tried going outboard for some finishing touches. Worked fine except for my lack of understanding using the effects rack. That is a whole other issue. The new plug-ins are great. The compression one works great. The only problem I have encountered was with the V-Synth. I tried using it as more of a library than a synth and when I load up all my samples it crashes. So now I just use small presets with it.

Sure. For me Norwegian tax is great. If you're only working for a short period in Norway, they don't tax you much, plus you get some extra money for being away from your own country. So I go to Norway for 1 week and get (after tax) what would take me 3 weeks to earn in Denmark where I have to pay 66% of any income on top of my usual pay check.

Det er deilig å være dansk i Norge! :D

(It's nice to be danish in Norway, for you english people. It's a joke. It's based on a commercial that states "It's nice to be norwegian in Denmark".)
