Yes, it is nice to be a Dane in Norway. I enjoyed even though I did a couple of 24 hour on calls during those weeks. It's still like holiday because you do something different, work with new people, get to see the way they handle things. And yes, both Norway and Sweden are nicer than Denmark when you look out of the window or actually take an outdoor walk. We're just better at night life here, the main reason so many young Norwegians come to my city.

Gees... look at the manual... no wonder it took so long to delivers...

Yep, I'm on that train also - but the studio version...

Finally arrived. Quite impressed - enough similarities to Pro audio to get me started fast. The package, including the manual, almost looks sophisticated.

Feels nice to be back to the future...

One pretty serious problem though - somehow the serial ports on the computer I've changed to are messed up. Can't get it to work (and I feel like I've tried everything short of changing OS). This means I can't use my Korg NX5R on PC to host (tried it on two other machines with 98SE and ME, and it works) - I really love that little guy. So I have kind of mixed feelings...
Really strange problem. XP just freeze when I turn the module on, and then starts running when I turn it off. If I start with the module turned on XP freezes on startup.

On the other hand - if it's a hardware problem - a new 'puter is in the budget for spring next year - so I can probably live with it until then. I'm just a weekend warrior...

Are you using the WinXP driver for the Korg? Using the old Win98/ME driver on Win2000/XP really screwes up your computer (I know, I've tried).

But thanks to James here, I got the drivers. If you ask him nicely, I think he will give you the link to the new drivers too. ;)

I don't get far enough to use any driver - the instructions says to have the NX5R running when installing, and if I have the module running XP won't. But yes - I was aiming for the NT/XP-driver. Even if it's a beta.

Thanks for the thought though...
I've run out of ideas of things to try myself...

I even went to the support-people for my computer (I got it through my company - so there's a supportdeal attached) - really the last thing I ever do. They basically told me they didn't support stuff actually working thru the serial ports - just the ports themselves. And as long as the com-ports are just sitting there I guess they're allright...

I won't buy any more computers from them.
;)

But I've been trying out softsynths the last hour - so I'm happy...
I can still make noise...
:)

I got it here...

http://www.korg.co.uk/downloads/nxs5rdl.htm

Is it the right one?

If not: Jaaameeesssee! Pleeeeeaaazeeeee......
;)

Does the COM-port has to be put in any special protocol mode? I'm thinking 7-8 bits, parity etc. I know about setting the module to 38.4kHz - but the port itself?

Ah! Found it. You shoul read this post! :)

EDIT: Yes, that link looks like it's the right one...

Thanks - interesting read...

Had a DOS-disk laying around - so I managed to upgrade the synth through pc-to-host on the computer that XP hangs. Nice seeing the interface working - every countdown was a joyous event. Obviously not a malfunction of the hardware itself - but I really have tried to find any conflicts so I'm still at a loss...

Installed the sed-disk (felt strange installing software for 98 on XP).

But no luck - still hangs...

moskus and jaymz

Ok, NOW you guys have to read the manual cover to cover, discover new and exciting things we can do and explain it to morons like me who cant find time to learn the new features.

A BIG Thanks guys for all the help in the past
keep it coming

Peace
Bill

Now I have it too! :D :D :D
I finally have Sonar 3 on my hands!!!

Going to set up a new computer this weekend and play a little with my new toy! :D

Just wanted to let you know (especially Moskus) that I solved the Pc-to-host problem with my NX5R. The guys over at Yahoos n-synth group had run into exactly the same problem. It seems some cables (mine) isn't compatible with XP, you need a cable that is exactly as in the manual. On some cables they don't have the bridge between pin 7 & 8.

So I built a small adapter with that bridge and a noise reducer I found at the groups website (http://www.cortidesign.com/korgn/)because for some reason I got clicknoise. Basically it's just a trimpot on pin 3.

Now everything is working ok...

I haven't had time to read the Sonar manual though...
