Folks,

Here is what just may be the final mix for a project that started in August 2001. I want to get your opinions on it before I post it to my web site as a demo.
Session 1: Drums & Bass
Session 2: Rhythm & Dirt guitars
Session 3: Vocals
Session 4: Lead Guitar solo.

Note: This was tracked, mixed and mastered in Nuendo. The vocals and lead guitar were tracked with cycle recording mode which allowed me to assemble the best parts from 11 takes to create a "perfect take".

Enjoy!

For a dial up modem that was a big download! enough whinning on my part.

First of all, I liked the song a lot. Nice mood and groove.

The vox needs to go up. It is lost for no reason. It sounds like there is plenty of room for it. Push that track up some. It has a soft and almost ambient feel which works well and will not be compromised by making the track a little hotter.

Nice mix of the git solo!! Nice fitting git tone as well.

I thought the bass could use a boost as well. I can hear that the performance is tight but, it got lost a tad and didn't have that punch and snap that the groove demands.

The backing vox work great but they almost out muster the lead at times. Maybe pot down a bit on them.

The git fills were all but lost towards the end of the song. Give them a place to sit.
The song has a very pleasant taste to it. Easy to eat it up!On the outro, I'd have the drums fade with the rest of the tracks.

Great tune. Very nice feel and emotion.

It was worth the download.

I hope my little comments help you. Just giving my audio impressions.

Peace,
Theron.

nice song to do a cover on. I can't hear the bass gtr....nor the fuzz gtr at all. the bass gtr somewhat, but it is really low. the clean rhy gtr is too loud, and actually overpowers the vocal. The vocals and the lead guitar are "distant" sounding. the lead is nicely played. I'd like to hear some more enthusiasm with the lead vocals. In general, I think the performances are almost there, but the main problems seem to be with volume balances between the instruments...and even the cymbals are a tad loud compared to the rest of the drums.

Thanks for the comments guys. Based on your suggestions I made a bunch of subtle changes in the mix.

The bass is louder, the overheads lower, vocals less distant and louder, and the dirt tracks are now louder.

that's better...still bring up those *nasty* dirt gtrs!! drums are much better!! bass maybe came up a tad too much...but it has a great sound. solo gtr comes in good too. much better:)

So THAT'S what Donovan was saying! :D

Nice cover version here..

I liked the Bass sound & mix, and though the lead break was tasty.

Would have sounded cool to have a lower male voice offsetting the lead voice toward the end, maybe panned hard left or right.

Cool cover!

I saw Donovan in concert last year.
Never realised what a GREAT guitarist he was.
