stripe a track on your tsr-8 with smpte time code then have software that can be synced to smpte time code. You'll need something to generate smpte time code to stripe your track and be sure to stripe an outside track on the reel. Your tsr-8 will be the master and the computer the slave just as sweetnubs is the master and all are my slaves.
TSR-8 is built specifically to do that on track 8, it will disable the dbx on that track.
But you could do it with FSK if you really want to get old fashioned......except you would have to start the song from the beginning every time. The advantage of smpte code is you can random locate and hit play and the software will synch up automatically.
Man I used to do this, wow it's been awhile. If I remember right this can get a little tricky, freaking frequency shift keying! I can still hear it! Aghh! I'm thinking a JL Cooper DataSync II would do it. I still have mine too, just sitting there.
I would also consider going the reverse route and syncing the machine to the computer (vs syncing the comp to the player). Cubase has a SMTPE generator plug built in
