Well me and my friend just bought a roland digital 8 track with 8 simetansouly recording tracks, and A Dbx Compression Unit, and We are not sure how to hook it up to the 8-track. Or even really how to use it. I mean compression in considered a effect. But I always find it hard to tell if you are using it. I have always used like shitty presets in Cakewalk, and this recording unit has built in compression. But I know it sucks too. But how do we hook it up? And how do we use the compression. Like seeting wise for screaming rock vocals or drums or whatever?
If you're using a built in pre on the recorder with phantom, and you don't have inserts, which you probably don't, you'll have to use an auxillary send and return to use the outboard compressor or just use the recorder's onboard compressor. It's probably as good as the DBX comp anyway.
