How to make absorption panel

Yes. Those wooden ones are membrane absorbers. They must be sealed air tight with caulk all around in addition to the top and bottom. You also can't have the front plywood touch anything but the frame.

They work by using the trapped air in the cavity as a spring to damp the wood vibrating and have the 703 help to absorb it and make the space appear acoustically larger.

Understand that the wood panels like that will function over about an octave or 2. The thick 703 will function over many octaves. All a matter of what you need.

$13 a board for 2" 703 is a bit steep and $50 for shipping is outrageous. The MOST I've ever had to pay to ship materials to a customer in the continental US is $36 via FedEx Home Delivery (Ground).

i paid like $60 per 9 panels of 2" 2'x4' JM 3#/ft^2, so what is that like $8 plus?

I pass SPI on my way home from work every day. :)

PS that's the Johnson Manvill equivalent of 703. Same stuff.

edit: also, 3 foot wide muslin is $o.99/ yd at Joann Fabric. This should be enough to cover the front face of 2" treatment on the ceiling and walls. I'll have to tack two lengths of it to my 4" framed bass traps...

This means that I can do a 2" broadband treatment that's 2'x4' for under $10

I made 12 panels and 8 tube traps and it cost close to $1000.

What's a tube trap? Is that one of those circular ones that go on a stand? Just a guess....have a picture? Sounds interesting.

I ordered my fiberglass and burlap from ATS. Don't worry, the burlap is good stuff. It's not wax coated and it's not super thick. Good stuff and easy to work with.

The only thing I didn't like....it smells like...well, burlap. After a few weeks the smell went away, though.

I plan on placing another order with ATS fairly soon. I have a vocal booth that needs some treatment.
