Using eMachine with 2.66-GHz Celron-D CPU (Don't laugh :)) with 512MB of PC2700 DDR RAM. Will upgrade to 2Gigs of RAM. Planning to put in a GIG stick by the end of the summer.

My computer really does suck

HAHAHAHAHAHA....HAHAHAHAHA....HAHAHAHAHAH ok

but then again i am just a newbie to all this ....

Watercooled Athlon XP 3200+ 1gb RAM with 1TB storage capacity ;)

That's a beauty. I'm working up to it. What board are you running?

I'm assuming you're overclocking.

im running 512 for now, my new (and overbuilt) computer that i'm trying to build will be using 2G RAM.

I have 1gig. I don't think if I upgraded to 2gig that I would see a dramatic improvement. But I have thought about it.

AMD 2400 barton core 512 gig ram it overclocks to 3000 without even trying. Almost 2 years on this computer no worries at all. Running digi 002r with Nuendo. I cannot seem to get what I need out of Protools?!?!?!?

Just finished building, less audio hardware and software:

AMD AthlonXP 2800+ Barton, 1 gb RAM, Abit KW7 motherboard (4 gb RAM max)

Likely to go with Cakewalk software, unsure about an audio interface yet.

cheers

Does AMD still cheat with the speed thing or does the 3000+ actualy run at 3Ghz these days?

My XP 2800+ nominally runs at 2.08 gHz. The Abit mobo actually lets it run at that speed; the AOpen board I started with would only recognize it as a 1.65 gHz 2200+...and I fried the BIOS trying to update it and thus rectify that little problem. Ugh. Anyway, the Abit seems to be a better board overall. And yes, I don't know where AMD gets those numbers, but they don't seem to directly correspond to processor speed.

As an aside, frustrating as it is sometimes, building your first PC is a great experience and not all that difficult as long as you're somewhat handy with tools, do your homework, and shop around. Plus you can save a crapload of cash.

Dual 244 with 2GB. Going to try out raid 5 on this pc.
Havoc, I suggest you skip the raid 5 unless you must have the parity for data integrity, you'd be much better off for audio purposes to do a 3 or 4 drive stripe (raid 0).
you lose 30% of the total space on a raid 5 and it is usually about 30MB/sec slower on sustained transfers than a comparable stripe.

just my 2 cents...

P4 3GHz 1gb PC3700 Kingston HyperX (2 x 512)

I wan't to get another Gig because video editing takes up so much!!!!

Dual Core Athlon 64 running at 2.6 GHz/core. With 2 GB of PC4000 running at PC4400.
Tis nice! :D
