Sweet!
Where would someone come by the information, as to what processor/mo bo/RAM/chipset/etc are compatible?

Just about to upgrade to an XP 3200+ (That wil be clocked to a 4000+ - suck it Intel! LOL) With 1 GB Corsair XMS 400 MHz DDR Ram (Dual Channel).

Whoo Hoo!

Cellar - Check out www.Newegg.com

In the Motherboard section, each MB will list what chipset, which cpu fits it, what kind of ram etc.

Building a PC really isn't that hard. I encourage anyone with ANY apptitude at all to do it.

I have an AMD Sempron 8100+ with 1Gig of memory.

I am considering 2 Gigs of memory because I have more money than brains.

Yep, made it myself. I wired 4 2000+ together and WOW! It is so fast that my data is there BEFORE I type it in on the keyboard!

Sombitch am I a liar. Maybe I have a 3000+.

Does AMD still cheat with the speed thing or does the 3000+ actualy run at 3Ghz these days?

Still cheating, but My Athlon 64 3300 (actual clock speed around 2.4GHz IIRC) is just as quick as my P4 3.2. They're on virtually identical systems otherwise, so I don't feel too cheated by the clock speed.

Athlon 64 3400+ (2.6ghz) with 1.5ghz PC3200 RAM.
It zooms!
Oh yeah, and on the AMD "cheating" issue, they cheat by making their processors perform better with fewer clock cycles. Wait until 4ghz becomes a standard. AMD will be ruling the market because Intels will be melting!

i hate freezing VSTis..I have 2 gigs and never freeze or render....ahhhh, finally.

No, my 3200+ runs at 2.2Ghz, but it will smoke a Pentium 3.2Ghz. Clock speed is only ONE factor in performance of a chip. Also, I can overclock the crap out of it if I want. :D

Athlon 3000+ (OC'd to 3200) 512MB of DDR400 RAM.

Upgrading RAM when I can afford it.

512MB, just like 2 years ago. I'm in no rush to upgrade. It runs just fine for my needs.

P III dual processor running at 1.1ghz; 1 gig PC 100 ram; 50 gig scsi recording drive

I have two machines here...

AMD XP-2600, 1.5gb PC3200 RAM, 128mb Radeon 9200 powering dual 17" CRT, AC'97, Vibra128 and Sound Blaster Live, 80+120gb hdd, dvd burner and reader, Windows XP

AMD Duron 850, 384mb SDRAM, 64 GeforceMX, 4+13+40+200gb HDD, Windows 2003

I like this setup very muchly, particularly now that I have ADSL

Dual 1G P3 w/1G RAM.

Broadband is the way to go. The other night I downloaded a 33 MB file in under 1 minute (Avg speed 730Kb/sec!).

My computer is 5 years old, but I don't think I will have to upgrade for a couple more. :)

I wish we got those sorts of speeds in Oz! My conneis around 50Kb/sec (512/128 ADSL). But at least it's better than friggin dialup!
