to give you an idea of scale, the control room is 10' x 10'.

and it will have a 12' cathedral ceiling that goes all the way to the floor on the top and bottom of the picture...so even though the top and bottom walls of the performance room look parallel, they are not because of the cathedral ceiling.

thanks.

I believe the first thing people are going to comment on is the square walls. Square walls are bad... If you want some good ideas for a studio layout, check out the SAE recording manual, and browse through John Sayers' site.

There is a wealth of information there. I believe that the general consensus on control room walls is symatry and 12* on the walls. Browse around on some of the other topics on this BBS and on John Sayers site, you'll learn a lot.

well, because of the cathedral ceiling, i thought the seemingly parallel walls in the performance room were no big deal. and i know the control room is square, but can't you outfit a control room with auralex to kill standing waves?

Offsetting the walls is the best way. I am not the expert on this by any means, but yes you can use accoustical treatments to kill standing wave.

In the last plan, you have to walk thru the performance room and the ISO booth to get to the control room?? That's not cool.

Parallel surfaces should be avoided both at walls, and floor to ceiling. The cathedral ceiling takes care of the floor to ceiling issue, but the walls still need to be delt with as well.

i know the control room is square, but can't you outfit a control room with auralex to kill standing waves?

Oh My!
You really need to go to the SAE site and do some research on acoustics. You'll be glad you did. Really!

so how much better would this be?

What are the dimensions of the entire space, left to right, front to back, and ceiling heights?

Are there any structural walls already in place? Poles? Sump pumps? Other obstructions that will not move?

Provide me the details please.

the entire space is 36' x 20'

and there are no existing walls, or poles, or anything else.

and in that last design i posted, i forgot to draw a door to the control room from the lounge.

thanks for the help.

That's a pretty good size. How high are the ceilings?
