I mean it's pretty obvious just by how quickly your comments turned into personal digs (what else is new).

I guess you say one thing here, but you record drums so that they ARE beating people over their heads. If you hit wet cement with a 2"x4" the sound would have more depth, body and musicality than some of the drums on your album.
Next time just use EZ Drummer…

I get what your saying, and im not saying its drum focused, Im saying by not getting them right you will ruin a mix more than any other instrument, and that includes making them overly prominent when they are not meant to be..

I know what you are getting at...but when you say "by not getting them right"....I'm just expanding and saying that getting them right has more to do with the BEAT itself than it does with the recorded SOUND....and certainly not where the drums always have to be LOUD.

IMHO...the folks (especially the forum non-pro recordists that you talk about) who crank up their drums LOUD and prominent in the mix, are many times covering up what is probably a generally weak song on its own, and then they use the loud drums to mask that and help "carry" the song by punching out the beat.
