How bad is Studio Projects quality control

Real nice. Go back and edit your posts so that you don't look like you are making idiotic, unsupported statements. Why don't you edit this back to your original statement? I believe it was something like "Colored dots=poor qc". That may be oversimplifying, but you get the idea.
 
Come on guys it's Friday, grow up, I'm not calling you names... besides this is a way better debate than "what's the best mic".

Because of PMI's poor quality control with their cheap Chinese made Studio Projects microphones, colored dots were added do to inconsistent output levels.

I won't get into any hyper-personal ranting, because frankly I don't know you and hope that I don't ever if this is your chosen form of discourse. I can't remember the last time I read something from you that wasn't bashing Studio Projects or making some unreasonably negative remark. It seems to be your way of operation to incite flames, all the while espousing yourself as the exhalted spam guard.

I find your commentary rude and generally worthless. I believe that you and folks who operate as you do have more to do with detracting from the main issue here (project studio recording) than anyone who you regularly insult (e.g. Alan Hyatt). This bbs suffers from your tiresome attempts at tongue-in-cheek whit. The more you continue and people sit idly by while you carry on this nonesence, the more likely homerecording.com will be the butt of the joke for all other bbses.

DJL, the point you appear to be missing is that the premise of your argument is assenine.
 
Mics from any manufacturer are going to have variations. Why would companies like DPA, Schoeps, Earthworks, Gefell even bother with "matched pairs" and often charge $100 or more to match them if every single mic coming off the assembly line is exactly the same? The answer is: They're not exactly the same. Duh.

Minor variations from mic to mic has nothing to do with QC.

I've probably used and tested over 20 SP mics, and found them all to be of consistently good quality.

Your advice and insight on this board is usually very good and valuable, I just realize that I have to go onto ignore mode with you whenever the topic of Studio Projects microphones come up. You are biased against them because you don't like Alan Hyatt, plain and simple. Now let's get on with it.

Incidently, if you dislike Chinese manufactured microphone capsules so much, why don't you just discard them from your mic cabinet? Of course you wouldn't be left with many and your mic cabinet would look like an Axis Alliance mic cabinet.

Why is it ALWAYS Studio Projects that get flamed to death?
I am SO glad that I have a mic locker of expensive mics. Saves me the trouble of getting into these circular arguments. People would be better off just buying what they want and be happy. It is really easy. Why argue over a sub $100 mic? Just TRY it. If it sounds good to YOU, just USE it. See?

I have no SP mics, but the SP people just don't deserve to be constantly harrassed. Pick on Steven Paul for a change. Now there is a real weirdo.

100 bucks ? Agreed. I couldnt take it anymore so I just ordered a B1. For 79 bucks im sure I can use it for something.

Actually, I believe Jehosephat Hyatt was caught performing unmentionable acts with one of his father's large prototype microphones, which was forcefully removed from it's location, leaving him permanently incontinent of stool. He harbors a grudge against the family to this day.

It would be interesting to take a bunch of random mics of one model from any manufacturer and see how closely their output levels matched. I doubt if many would beat the +/-2dB (-35dB +/-2dB) of the SP B1's.

That's a span of 4dB of possible variation between any two SP mics.

Neumann U87s have a guaranteed variation of no more than +/- 2dB from their published curve. That's a span of 4dB possible variation between any two U87 mics.

Let me put the two key sentences together for you, just in case you missed it:

There is a possible variation of 4 dB between 2 U87 mics.
There is a possible variation of 4 dB between 2 SP mics.
