Hooking up chain

I understand what you're saying, but at the same time, I don't have a ton of knowledge on TRS stuff, so I'm a bit clueless. So I should just buy the snake with those direct out cables? Like if I got the direct out cables, it should work no matter what right? Should I just purchase them and be "safe than sorry"?

Well, what you would need is the HOSA snake along with 8 of the HOSA Direct out cables. The DOC-106 is the same thing as the DOC10 at zZounds.
As far as a supplier in Canada you could check here or see if Music123 can order them.
The Direct Out cables get plugged into the Inserts, then the snake will go from those Direct Out cables to the 1010LT.

Thanks a lot man, I really appreciate all your help. Well I guess that matter is solved. Just a few last minor details to clear this up so I'm sure.

I'm running this all into my computer, but sound wise I would monitor it from speakers connected directly to my mixer correct? I wouldn't hook the speakers up to the soundcard would I? Just double checking.

And just wanna clarify this being possible, because I have money to buy this stuff, but it's hard earned and I don't want to !@#$ myself over.

Okay -- this is probably kind of a repeat but -- basically I could record all my separate tracks into Cool Edit (like 4 drum mics, would go in separate channels). So there, all my drums, guitars, basses, whatever are sitting in the Cool Edit multitrack screen, right?

Now I would want to be able to hit play and have them run back out the soundcard to my mixer, so I could adjust volume/E.Q./gain/whatever. So let's say I have all my levels for every channel down pat, it's all set.

How would I go about mixing this down? Could I hit play again on Cool Edit (but they would sound different, since they would be running back into my board and already be tweaked and going out the speakers) and send that 'tweaked' sound back into another track on Cool Edit as the final mixdown?

Or am I a total dumbass and just move around dots and lines in Cool Edit to adjust stuff...which I would rather not do. Phew, think I've asked all that needs to be asked.

I also have a bad feeling what I posted above would create some of feedback loop.

That's where it all starts getting a bit more complex and is really dependent on your mixers routing capabilities and ones own creativity with their mixer.
If your are just recording yourself, it would be best to monitor off the mixer with headphones to avoid feedback. If you are recording others in a separate room, then you could safely use the speakers.
Unfortunately, it would be rather hard for me to try and explain all of this.
Others may be able to clarify the subject better than I could.
At any rate, you may be able to find some valuable information by searching the forum for topics such as "analog mixing", "analog mixdown", "mixing out of the box" or even "analog summing".

Yes, you'd output 8 tracks from the soundcard into the mixer's line inputs, adjust the pan, eq, faders on the mixer, and output the master bus to 2 inputs of the soundcard, and record these in Cooledit

Okat got'cha. I have bus outs and all that stuff, and that is another topic I'm a little grey on. But I'll search for those topics too crank, thanks. My output options are a little quacky to me...but that's for another day.
