I'm sorry if I assumed that you really did want a hardcore critique of your guitar. I didn't get that from your original post. Apparently some other posters feel that you need a critique and not a chance to share your success if building a wonderful piece of equipment.
Here's my critique. Keep doing what YOU are doing - and get help where you think you need (and you already indicated that part). Listening to others will only make your guitar be like everything other guitar already made... in which case - why even try to make one if you can just go out and buy the damn thing?
Have fun with the electronics! BTW - have you decided what you want to put in there???

All light did was offer the guy a chance to get some advice from someone who "knows". It really doesn't matter how he said it and whom he said it to. Believe it or not us guys who have made guitars for a number of years do know how it's done and can point out things in the detail that others would never spot or even consider.
If you ask me it's the rest of you that should STFU.
I'm glad all I said this time was "nice job".
There are a few things I could point out about it. Metalhead, PM me if you need any observations. I don't think the rest of the group can handle critisism.

Light's just got horrible social skills, even on line.
It's actually pretty easy.
Start out with, "Wow, that's really cool. I can tell you worked very hard." Then you list a few things that are positive.
Next, you say something like, "Here's a couple of ideas that might help with..." then give a couple of fix x so y will be better suggestions.
Third, "Next time you build a guitar, consider...because..."
Finish with some positive reinforcement and praise for giving it a shot.
If Light would have done that, mh28 would have felt good and learned something, and we'd've all learned something, too.

I'm open to any and all criticism, everything from "you shouldn't have done it that way", to "that is an ugly piece of shit".
Seriously, I'd like to hear Light's comments. I know he knows what he's doing and I know that I don't. Same for Muttley and anyone else who is in the know.
There are several things I will do differently the next time, and I'd really like to have more ideas to add to that list. This was done as a "prototype" more or less, and I know there are several mistakes, bad decisions, etc.
Oh yeah, and I've recently ordered some new tools so that I can tackle the fret work and the nut on my own. I want to be able to say that I did it all myself - so I'm not going to skimp there.

I happen to think it's pretty poor online social skills to flame a guy who knows what he's talking about and hands out good qualified advice for free. There are a few on this board who are right at the top of the tree in this and related businesses who post for free. It never ceases to amaze me that they come in for all sorts of critisism for doing so. If they all got up and left, what would you have? Just another forum for fret wankers and recording wannabes.
I'm sure if Metalhead took offense he would have said so.

The way forward maybe for you to list a brief post on how you have got where you are with it. Inspiration, materials, approach to building each bit, tools you used, bits you found easy/hard etc. Doesn't have to be a big post. From there maybe we can point in the direction of how others do it and jigs and methods that make the process easier and more accurate.
As I said originally, you've done a good job and it's cosmetically a lot better than most first efforts I've seen. Better than my first effort as well but that was 30 years ago.
The problem with critique online is I can't hold the damn thing and the most important thing with any musical instrument is how it feels and how well it holds together. Even more important than tone to some degree. Don't be afraid to have a crack at the frets and especially the nut you can afford to have a few go's at them.. If you have the skills to get that far I'm sure you can do a half decent fret dress.
Also start a new thread on your plans for the next one and I'll be happy to help out where ever possible. You can save a lot of time money and effort by planning carefully and establishing exactly how you are going to tackle each job.

apl and i just feel that honesty should not have to be brutal. being honest should be enough. let's save the brutality for the death metal.
