Ok, Im getting some pretty good results using my current setup, but Id like to know some products that would help me progress my studio (Hard Hat Studio)
IBM Computer
Roland Monitors
Dbx Compressor
Tascam 414...................Im using the Tascam as my input to the computer and im not using the actual tape part of the tascam at all what could I do to make it sound better????? suggestions please

You'll probably get more input in one of the equipment forums. This area is usually geared towards the physical aspects of studio building, including acoustics.

Anyway, my two cents: If you are recording to computer (IBM or otherwise) do some research on soundcards or stand-alone interfaces (USB or firewire). Look for something that provides good A/D and D/A conversion.

Roland is not the best choice regarding monitors. If you have a lot of money check out products by Adam, Genelec, and Dynaudio. For less hefty budgets you might consider the Tannoy Reveal or Mackie 626/824. And, if your somewhat restricted, Yorkville, Event, or M-Audio. Monitors are best tested by your own ears, so specific suggestions are difficult. At any rate, check out the other equipment forums. Someone is always asking about monitors!

I have a Dbx compressor (1066). It's OK, but nothing to write home about. Some people like the older 166 compressors but the best Dbx products cost a lot more than most folks would like to spend. If you searching for a good budget compressor, look for the FMR RNC (Really Nice Compressor). It gets a lot of favorable press, especially among users of this BBS.
