Tyler, I won't bust your balls about the way you come across, plenty of people will take care of that for me, but you need to switch to decaf. I too, am building a project studio on a budget compareable to yours. I think what's been suggested by C7sus and others is that it's easy to aquire a lot of gear if you have the budget, but that the space in which music is recorded is often overlooked in budgeting. My solution was to do less better whenever I could. Rather than buying a lot of gear, I bought things that were versatile, and tried to keep it simple. The whole hard part is applying your budget (or almost anyone's) to-"I want to be able to do anything". For about $7000 in gear I can record 2-3 channels at once pretty well, and I won't be doing the mixing and mastering.
One last thing-My whole knowledge of audio is based on 30 years of performing, and a 5 month crash course in recording pro audio. I will advise people only if I believe I've checked my facts and consulted the right experts, and if my own experience squares with what I'm advising or posting. Occasionally I'm confused, and some techhead here will straighten me out. The worst thing you could do here is assume you know enough to do this without the help of nice people like the ones here, because you don't. If you say anything, there will be a hundred checks on it to see if it's true in all cases. I find it very good for me, and I try to only say what I know to be true. Keep trying to learn and you and your recording will be better for it.-Richie
