Actually I think it runs about $1.10 or so to mail a CD in the US. :D

However, mailing wave files on a CD is exactly what I had in mind for the final mix at end of the project. We can just use mp3's in the interim to help speed along the process.

Nope anything under 1 0z total weight "letter size" is 37 cents for first class. I see them every day :)

We is making PROGRESS

I downloaded James' drum tracks tonight and mixed them in with Jagular's vocal track (which also has the scratch bass and rhodes on it). First off, James, you are one talented guy. Very nice job on the drums!!

This thing is already sounding good, and it ain't even a quarter of the way done.

So here's what we need to do short term:

1. I can post an mp3 of what I've got. Again it is just slightly over 5 megs. Maybe the best bet is to send it to Jagular, and let him replace the scratch track that he currently has on his site with this one. It's essentially the same thing, but with drums.

The other alternative is to split it up and put it on the Yahoo site. Not my preference as it's more work, both to split it and to recombine it for anyone who wants to hear it. (Or we could put it on moskus' site. Moskus? Moskus? Calling moskus.) :D

2. Someone now needs to download this track (once it is up somewhere) and add the bass to it. Would that be you, Porter?? This track already has the midi bass in it. If you would prefer to have that removed first, then see #3 below.

3. Jagular, I need a copy of your bare vocal track. No music, except for the 4 beat click that counts the song in. The reason is that I need to start removing things. For ex., the current version of the song now has drums, but it also has the click going throughout the song and I have no way to remove it (since it is on the vocal track). Same thing for when I need to remove the bass.

4. As Porter said earlier, anyone recording parts to this should leave the 4 beat click count in on their track. This allows everything to be aligned down the road. James' part was fine since it was aligned to the Sonar measures, but I had to move Jag's track 15 ticks to align it up. Since he had the click on his track, it was no problem. :D

This could be very nice when it's done, ladies and gentlemen.

BTW, to answer an earlier question about being true to the original. My opinion is that each of us should do what we feel is right. If you want to take some liberties, then go ahead. (I'll just bury you in the final mix.) <------ kidding. :)

HMCC - Our site!

Okay, the server (and the house it was in) was struck by lightning (spelling?) four days ago. The server itself wasn't damaged (WHOHO), but they lines are down. We just need to cross our fingers...

I hope this project isn't jinxed. :(

BTW, you spelled lightning correctly, but "the" is usually spelled without a "y". :D

Can do on both. I will get the bare vocal (uhhhggg...no compression?? :D) with the count in to you this weekend. I'll figure out some way to post it up so you can DL it. I may try the zipped wav file idea.

John, you can use compression if you want. I just didn't want any instruments on the track, i.e., the bass, elec piano and click (except for the 4 beat count-in). In other words, just an acappella version. :)

In fact, I was thinking you would just use the vocal you already recorded. I assume it's on its own track. You should be able to solo the vocal track and click track (or mute the others) and export a wave. The click track you will have to slip edit first, or delete everything after the count-in.

BTW, an mp3 is fine for now. I think a zipped wave will still be quite large in size. At this point we just need "working" tracks, so mp3's should do the trick.

We could do midi if anyone has a sound font of your voice. :D

No problaim.

Oh…yeah…I wasn’t thinking. You don’t really want me naked, just in my underwear :D

I probably will, but if I get ambitious I may take another run at this.

Yeah…I may experiment just to see…but definitely will put up at least an MP3 of it.

You must have me confused with those Java Boys. LOL :D

Jagular - We worked a little last night on the BG Vox for BPOM. After listening to it multiple times, all I can say is that when you fully learn this song, you are gonna tear it up!!!

Mmm. I certainly feel like tearing up my rhythm guitar contribution. :)

I re-did the rhythm parts yesterday (Sunday), and it only took two hours... I'm not going to fiddle with it any more, you can have it complete with fluffed chords and bum notes. Dachay, I'm sure you can Fix It In The Mix :)

I still find the bridge section a problem, even though I used markers to denote the chord changes.

I tried using Punch In to tidy up a couple of mistakes and it was spectacularly unsuccessful. All I managed was to do was to completely wipe the whole of the track.

So where to next? Shall I try posting the Scratch with Rhythm.MP3 to the Yahoo BPOM folder?

What about the Click plus Rhythm.MP3? Where will I send that?

Well, the original thought was that maybe ChuckU could cover it on trumpet. However, Chuck seems to be MIA. :)

For anyone interested, I put an mp3 version of the song in its current state (scratch tracks plus James' drum tracks) in the BPOM folder on Yahoo. I split it into two pieces using James' splitter tool, so you will need a copy of the tool to reassemble it. I found it quite easy to use (although I didn't try to put it back together).

Jag - I just downloaded the "vocal only" track, and I will mix it into the project one night this week. That will allow me to remove the click track that goes throughout the song in the current version. I'll leave the 4-beat intro in place, but with the drum track we don't need it going the entire song.

BluesMeister - I'll need to get the Click Plus Rhythym mp3. What's the best way to do this? Can you e-mail it to me - or is there a size limit on your e-mails? The other option is to post it to the Yahoo folder using the splitter tool. Once I download it, we can delete it so the space can be freed up.

Is anyone planning to do a lead guitar solo (right before the sax solo) and the muted stuff in the intro?

And did we resolve who is doing the bass? And, if so, does anyone need a mix of the song without the existing bass part?

I am having a look at the Bass part... slowly... ie mostly listening to it at this stage. I plan on over the next few nights writing a tab for it... I think in some instances it is an octave lower than what was in the MIDI file... I'll work that out and either record it or forward the tab to Paul (I'm assuming that he plays Bass full time?) and we can sort out who plays what.

BTW... I'm about to update Cakewalkers .. btw, what do you think of the new logo?

WHOHO!

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

The server will be up and running during the next few days.

Porter, can you make a list of all the HMC-members. Then I can PM username/passwords to everybody (prefer not to leave it "in the open"). :)

Check out the cakewalkers web site...project status page... it has all the current organised contributers..

dachay2tnr, there was a problem with the second file that you uploaded onto Yahoo... both of the split files need to be the same name with the .001 and .002 after it. I downloaded, tried joining them and it didn't work the first time... I'm in the process of uploading a corrected file. Should be there by the time I've finished typing this (almost). Basically... if you download the two files now you should be right.
