Can anyone tell me, definitively, who's playing what solo (first or second) on the original "Blue Sky" from the Allman Brothers' Eat a Peach album?

They sound really similar, and I can't tell which one's Dickey and which one's Duane.

Or does anyone have any resources that would help me find out?

I'm writing a book, and I'm coming up empty on this one.

Thanks!

If I remember my history correctly, Tom Dowd was the engineer on that one. IMO he was a mixing genius and blended things so well it is cloce to impossible to tell who is playing what on many of his mixes. Sorry I couldn't answer your question but maybe the info on the engineer helps with your project. You might get some more info by searching the archives at Capricorn Records. If all else fails, contact Richard Betts, I'm sure he can tell you. (Don't ask me how to contact him)

Dickie probably doesn't want to talk about it. He was thrown out of the ABB a couple of years go, the reason for which depends on who you talk to.

Anyway, Dickie and Duane had very similar playing styles when Duane wasn't playing slide. I was listening to the Fillmore album just about a week ago and had the same question. I can't tell who is playing what just by listening if there is no slide guitar in the mix. If there is, of course it's Duane.

Yep the styles are very similar, I think it was Dickie who tended to push the treble just a little more otherwise it's hard to tell. Or maybe it was just that "old red guitar" he was fond of playing.

Once they do the harmony part, it's real easy to tell which is Duane, 'cause he was 400 times smoother
