Here's Your Big Chance To TOTALLY Diss A Famous Guitarist

For my post im gonna have to say Steve Vai as the only guitar player i truely can't stand. He's so into himself im pretty sure he'd marry himself if he could. His stuff really doesn't move me, and im sorry but just because you know every scale known to man and can write a song around any one of them doesn't mean your music is any good. Better songs have been written with 3 chords and 5 notes. Sometimes these guys get there heads so wrapped around the technicalities of writing music that they stop feeling and writing moving tunes. I think Vai is one of these people. If you disagree (which im sure alot of you do) thats fine, but please post a response that is respectful. Thank you

GASSSSSSSSSSSSSPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP WHATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT?????????????????????????????? Little wing is a beautiful song to mention one besides his more known songs, and of course the lyrics aren't going to make much sense he was high when he wrote them!

I'm high when I listen to them, and they still don't make sense.:p

Actually, I can't bash his lyrics. It's the music that's hard to take.

I think people need to look at Hendrix in the context of what he did and when he did it.There's been forty years come and gone since he hit the scene. He blazed the trails and others expanded upon it.Also music technology has advanced quite a bit since he's been around.

I think Hendrix is great.I also think the song trumps the tone everytime.

In the end this thread is no different than asking someone where to get the best pizza,it's strictly a matter of taste.

Yup, 40 years or not I still learn something new everytime I listen to him. Everytime I listen to Machine Gun for that matter.

Although I constantly pray for acidrock's untimely demise, he's absolutely right here. Whether you like him or not, I'm not convinced that any of us would've picked up a guitar if Hendrix hadn't done so first.

Only one? But, but, but...how do you chose?

I'll take the easy one, I guess, `cause I'm lazy: Yngwie Malmsteen. One of the worlds primer proponents of baseless arrogance. I don't mind terribly if someone is an prick, as long as they can back it up when they play. In other words, being an arrogant asshole is OK, but a talentless arrogant asshole is the bottom of the barrel.

See here, if one were to copy Ritchie Blackmore, one must copy every aspect. Yngwie has it down to a T including personality!

It's a cruel world when the Hendrixs leave us all too soon and the Purges continue to be the scourge of the internet.Maybe someday we'll find a cure.:p

It's Crow's Point Pizza in Hingham MA.

I was gonna say Elvis Costello or Frank Zappa just to piss off Light or Muttley but then I decided to really stick my neck out and go with Robert Johnson. Even with the help of Old Scratch himself the guy just doesn't deserve his reputation.

I'm gonna ditto this. Guitar World raves about him so I gave it a listen. I can appreciate his music for what it was to the blues, but I don't really get the cult following of guitarists he has, I failed to be really inspired by his playing, and I become inspired easily.

Satire is used to point out the idiocy of someone, I don't get the point:confused:. Although I'll be honest and say alot of what Muttley says goes over my head.

If you mean the technical stuff about musical acoustics and related content just ask me to break it down a bit, I'll do my best. A lot of it is quite relevant to your average player even if it's just to rule out it's impact to your situation. I teach this stuff to degree level students so I might make too many assumptions about others level of awareness.

If you mean my level of idiocy I can't help you there.:D
