Blind Man Drivin A Van. I’ve been struggling a little with the drums and guitars and intro on this one.
I think I’m having some phasing issues with the drums, esp the overheads. There is some compression on the drums already. The cymbals on the intro are way too much for sure. Not enough snare, kick not punchy, too much cymbals?
What compression, if any, is on the overheads?
I just went back over the overheads and one track had the plugin so out of whack it was destroying the cymbals…lol. I’m sure I didn’t set it that way, but it was ridiculous. I’ll try a new mix tomorrow. I’m also using Slate trigger on the kick and snare, so I’ll mess with that too.Not enough snare, kick not punchy, too much cymbals?

It’s still kinda of a mess. The guitar is supposed to be rude though…Hi Scott.
The guitar on the left is rude.
The bass comes and goes.
Drums are almost rude.
It's a wall of sound.
The concept is good.
Vocals should be louder or more present.
Hard to tell what is in front.
Kind of like a kid band where all of us are fighting for focus.
Good song.
Just a line level mix…and it sounds so much better than this mix.Not enough snare, kick not punchy, too much cymbals?
What compression, if any, is on the overheads?
Yeah, I agree with the comments. Very appreciated. I’ll post a better mix soon. Some good points made in the above posts, so I won't be an echo. I like the song by the way.
I had the vocals coming back in a stereo bus as a stem. It is one track and a copy of it making a second track.Dig the song. Not a fan of the panning choices. I'm old school and think vocals should be center. Sounds to me like you're mixing this song at loud volumes. Give it a good listen at low volume, too
I would like to hear more dynamics in the arrangement. Dial it back during the verses, kick it up in between. The noodling guitar on the left doesn't need to play all the time. Allow the energy to ebb and flow.
Yeah man.
That hurts……lol ?Don’t know how to describe it, but to me it sounds all squished together. Lots of stuff crammed into a small frequency band with very little dynamics. And it definitely sounds like a guitar player mixed it. Guitars really jump out at times.
Best I can describe it.
Tune has potential and I like the way it moves and the energy.
Sorry man. But I’ve heard stuff of yours that sounded much better. That hurts……lol ?
Im much more concerned with what going on with the drums, than the guitar levels at the moment. That’s the easy part to work out.
Earlier tonight I undid all the plugins on the drums. The basic problem on this track is how these drums were recorded in the first place. Kik, snare, two over heads and a room mic.
That's all you need 95% of the time...Kick, snare, two over heads and a room mic.
That’s the thing. The vocals are panned center. However they came in as a stereo bus with both sides of the bus panned L & R but the vocal tracks were panned center. I’m mixing through my console and the stem comes back with the pans far L and R but the tracks are centered in the DAW. When I reset the pans on my console to center it immediately made the vocals centered and louder. I have not experienced this issue working with stems before. I do have to tracks of the original vocal printed with different plugins on each one so I was wondering if I somehow did something to cause a weird comb filtering effect of phasing? I don’t really get it though. I may ditch the vocal bus and bring them back on separate tracks?^^^^
Yah I second centering the vocal and hopefully it will pop out a bit more. I think that will take care of the guitar on the left also
