Hello,

I am in the market for a keyboard and have been looking at the Alesis QS8.1 mainly because it feels the best of all I have played so far. I really like the weighted keys on this Alesis. My questions:

1. Is this a good keyboard to get?
2. I have seen these rackmount/controller combinations--is that a better way to go?

TIA

Stephen

Tough question because it depends on 1) what you want to do and how you want to use it and 2) what sounds good to you.

I have a QS8 and like it. That said, it does have the sound selection of some synths and unlike a lot of synths it doesn't take samples easily (you can use cards and soundbridge, but it is still slightly to moderately painful to use) It is fairly inexpensive and has good basic features. Good luck with your choice.

To clarify...it DOESN'T quite have a sound selection of some synths... Also, it doesn't have resonance on the filters (or for that matter a lot of fancy filter types). But it has a pretty easy learning curve.
