Hi jvasey
The songs that flow from me vary. Most are in various blues styles. Some country, some folk, some psychedelic, etc.
I have no idea about inspiration. My mood is mellow, but a bit reckless. One time I write death stuff, crying songs, broken love songs. The next time a song pops out for kids, like six and under maybe. I've tried to get inspired by something nice and happy, you know, the inspirational route, but I become frustrated cuz it's not me. I have written some fairly nice songs, I wouldn't call them happy (I think of 'Don't Worry, Be Happy' when I say that, and I hate that song) but they bring a good feeling to the listener.
Maybe if you were to try to set your mood before you begin playing. Take your time and relax.
I think if you were to possibly tone your insturment down, mellow like. Begin a chord progression with a lot of minor chords, soft, slow like.
Hope something happens 'happy' for you. Good luck.
