Help with this setup?

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum... But Im not sure where it goes.
Anyways, my band is wanting to record so Ive been researching... would this work?

If we got that, then some mics for the drums, and plugged everything into the board (Guitars, vocal mics, drum mics), then the board into my computer, would that be a decent setup? Also, recommend some decent monitors (about $500), and you'd be a great help!

It doesnt need to be perfect, but good enough to make CDs to sell to some friends, etc. and see how we sound as a band...

Thought it'd be easier to come here than to get a book and spend hours reading...

How many mics were you planning to run at a given time? I'm not intimately familiar with that product but I think it only has 4 mic pre's.
 
Uhm, probably just one vocal mic to start out with.. then 3 for the drums? Might not even get around to all 3 for drums right now, but thats what most people say to get. Worst case scenario is that we'll need 2 vocal mics. What else would you suggest doing?
 
That's the way a lot of the beginners start. Nothin wrong with it...mic's, mic pre's, mixer that's all it really takes to get the recording down. Just wanted you to be sure of the product...looks like it's got more channels but just the 4 mic pre's. Mackie makes some nice stuff and that package looks nicely priced for the features.

Bump this for anyone else with some advice.

You also might spend a little time searching the forums to make sure you've got your big picture/plan in perspective. The best question to ask is exactly what are your expectations and the plan. Once you've got that down, the rest is just a shopping trip and practice. :D

I have one of these on backorder from the same place... When you factor in the bonus bundle, they have the best deal that I found on the net IMHO...

Yes, you should be able to do what you want with this piece of hardware. Keep in mind that you can always buy (or possibly rent?) outboard preamps if you want to record more than four tracks simultaneously.

By reading your posts, I can't tell if you have realized that you don't have to record all the instruments at the same time. So you could record four tracks of drums, then overdub guitars, vox, bass, as needed... In fact, especially for vocals, it would be desirable to overdub them later so that you don't get bleed from other instruments...

The biggest problem you may have, is getting this interface to work properly with your computer. There are alot of variables in PC recording systems that will impact and possibly degrade performance. This includes everything from chipsets on your mobo, FW card, your system specs, the quality of the manufacturers drivers, your OS, etc... Be prepared to troubleshoot some glitches.
