Help with starting to plan a new studio plz!

Hello guys...any input on this would be welcome and appreciated.
Well, I'm planning on extending my house with the purpose of building a recording studio in there..The extention would be a split level sort of thing (wow interesting ain't it)...now I'm planning to have two rooms (studio & control)....I'm wondering what would be the better idea: To have control room in the part with higher ceiling....or to have live room with higher ceiling....
The"lower" ceiling would be about 2.4.mtrs high, and the higher one about 3.6 or so....

Live rooms are reported to be better with tall ceilings...

Whatever you choose to do, take your estimated budget and add 80-85% to it...no matter how well you prepare, things will pop up that unless handled, will turn a good project into a damsel in waiting. This stuff gets very expensive very quickly!

thnx midland...I'm very much aware of the $$$ issues..I've been researching for a while now....I will tell you how I go, however this is only the early planning stage...thanks for the input :)
 
Post intended room sizes, parallel walls or not, wall construction (if you know already), degree of sound proofing needed, etc - the more you tell, the more we can pick it apart :=)

Ok..cocncrete slab....brick walls (haven;t decided single or double) will build rooms withing rooms, so thats when I was planning to angle the walls and ceiling, and get rid of parallel surfaces...
Room sizes:
Two rooms
approx. 6m X 4m Each
ceiling hight 2.4m in one part and approx. 3.2m in the other part

I want to sounproof it as much as I can (maybe as much as po$$ible :) )

Now my other question is (they never stop coming):
Would you recommend the longer wall (6m in this case) to be my front/back (where the monitors are and opposite) wall in the control room,, or the shorter wall (4m)

couple of questions

HI, just couple of offerings. If you are extending the house, is the extention going to be an exterior shell for both the studio and control room, or are either of these rooms going to be in the existing building. That one decision alone will determing many things. Isolation, hvac, construction, electrical load, etc. And if one of the rooms IS going to be in the existing building your existing exterior wall will determine quite a few things. However, IF your whole studio/control room are going to be NEW, I would investigate seperating the two structures(existing and new), even by a few inchs, as an alternative to just adding on. Actually it is, but you will be able to isolate structure borne noise from the house. But this adds financial and legal ramifications. But it is an alternative. However, this kind of idea, MUST be approved by your local building inspection department, as any kind of add on affects code, insurance, etc. etc. Hope this helps.

thanks guys...FITZY: I just sort of called that a "house extention" , but it will actually be a separate building probably with the walls (house wall and new building's wall) about a foot apart...separate foundation and all that....I've spoken to the local council and there shouldn't be any major issues as they classify my project as "SINGLE DWELLING" or whatever the hell they call it:D ...the air conditioning and ventilation shouldn't be a problem as my oldman works at a ducted cooling/heating place...he can get the unit(s) and all the ducts, vents and everything at the cost (but I still expect it to be pretty pricy :( )...thanks guys...keep it up..:)
