I have an M-Audio Fastrack guitar/mic rcording interface. It does not have phantom power. I do have a Behringer XENYX 802 Mixer that does have phantom power. How could I make these two devices work together to record a condenser mic? If possible. I know I could run the mic straight into the mixer then into my laptop but the whole point of me getting this interface was to avoid my pos sound card! A friend gave me this interface for free that is why I'm asking, if I were to buy one I would obviously buy it with the phantom power. If there is a way to accomplish what I am seeking here, please feel free to offer any helpful advice, Thanks!

I am almost positive that the Fasttrack has phantom power. I think there is a button or switch that says 48v. If not then run the mic into the mixer, route the mixer to the line-in on the interface.

Im just gonna echo a bit of what dastrick said.....

I had a Fast Track usb when i first started out, and dastrick is right,

1. plug your mic into your mixer

2. ensure phantom power is enabled on the mixer.

3. get a 1/4 inch TS cable........or guitar chord.....same thing...... and plug it into the Main mix ouput or control room output of the mixer into the BACK side of the M-audio fast track usb line input. There is a button on the back of the Fast track usb that says guitar/Line. You will want to enable "line"

good luck!

CHEERS!!!

But doesn't the Fasttrack have phantom power? I see the the Fasttrack MkII has phantom, but I'm not sure about the first Fasttrack.

Hey dastrick!!! man were having our run ins tonight eh....lol.

It depends on which fast track he has.

M-Audio makes the

1. Fast Track USB.......this is the basic one.......which i think the op has.......If he has the older version it doesn't have phantom power.....the newer version does have phantom power. I think they did away with the old Fast track usb versions about a year or so ago.

2. Fast Track pro....which does have phantom power

3. Fast Track ultra....phantom power

4. Fast Track ultra 8r....phantom power as well.

so basically the only Fast Track unit that does NOT have phantom power is the old "basic Fast track usb version.........

the only reason i know this is because i bought this unit 3 or 4 years ago from best buy as my first audio interface.

Your ABSOLUTLEY 100 PERCENT RIGHT about the fast track MKII having phantom power though.

Thank you Keith and Dastrick. I will try what you said. And yes, I believe I have the older Fastrack. It has only one input channel and no phantom power. The thing is I bought the same exact M-audio 2 channel one that has phantom power a few days ago. It is still unopened and new in box. I went to my buddys house the same day and mentioned what I had bought. He said no SH*T and pulled out this one and gave it to me for free, software, box, and all. I would much rather use this free one with my mixer to get the phantom. That way I could take this back and get my $150 back, know what I mean? Thanks again guys i will try this setup and hopefully I come out on top.
