Help with 1/8" problem...

Ok well I know you're going to say go out an buy another sound card...BUT GIVE ME SOME OTHER SUGGESTIONS... Ok now here's my problem lol

Just on my normal working PC (not audio or anything) I have a soundblaster something as the sound card...Now when ever I plug in speakers, the sound goes like MONO. But when I push the 1/8" plug for the speakers a bit to the left (still inside of the jack) it goes stereo and if I let go it goes scratchy and back to mono. So it's the TIP of the 1/8th inch plug on the speakers not being able to touch the inner tip part of the jack... SO.. the jack's inner part is like bent back wards. Anyways, I am ALWAYS listening to music on this computer while typing assignments or something...and am REALLY short for cash... so can I take the sound card out and with a pin or something try and bend it back (if anyone knows how??)... And yeah I'm having the same problem with my MP3 player too (Luckily it's only one of those RCA Lyra's but STILL it's my ONLY "transportation" music)... So if anyone knows how to fix this it would be greatly appreciated

Sounds like you have the problem identified. A run of the mill SC can run as little as 12-25 dollars on eBay, thats less hassle than trying to fix yourself.

Ever think you're doing things backwards???

Maybe you've got a cheap duff cable with a connector that's not up to spec diameter.

a)Try spending $3 down at Radio Shack
b) Dont jam your plugs in the sockets so hard

Well the sound card solution is pretty fixable...just get another sound car right? Well what about my mp3 player... lol And hey, I dont jam them in hard LOL... I'm just constantly taking my headphones in and out of my Mp3 cause I change back and forth to CD player (cause I have ALOT of CDs and like supporting artists by buying CDs)...anyways any suggestions on fixing it?

You could try to bend the thing back. These things are pretty cheap and some of them are sealed. If you bend the connection too much, it will break.

If you can't see it by looking at it, it is sealed and you can't get to it. It is pretty self explanitory once you look at it and plug something in. If it is just a little black box, your screwed.

Try a little bit of deoxit or the radio shack contact cleaner (on the male portion, dont be squirting into the socket)

Thanks guys... And yeah Thane that's exactly what I did.. went down to RS bought the headphone jack (and it was the right one too) and soldered it in. I noticed though when I took it apart, one of the pins wasnt even connected to the circuitboard!! lol anyways now they'e both working AWESOME !! Thanks!
