OK - first please be gentle as I am a bit of a noob - but I am thinking of buyiing the fast track Ultra but was wondering how I would connect my studio monitors

http://www.m-audio.com/images/global/media_hqpics/FastTrack Ultra -back.jpg

The reason I am a bit confused is that I current have an Edirol DA-2496 which connects by PCI - the back has 8 output holes but also has 2 holes for the monitors (1&2)

Now I am guessing someone is going to say connect the monitors to the outputs but which ones - the ultra has six outputs

Help the Noob :spank:

i'm gona guess two things...

1: outputs 1+2 will be the default in any software. connect the monitors here

2: you'll be able to change the main outputs in your software to 3+4, or 5+6 and plug the monitors in there instead.(if you wanted to)

think of it this way....if your mixing software main outputs are 1+2, and your monitors are plugged in there,

you could have a headphone amp plugged into 3+4 coming from sends in your software.
this means when someone says 'turn the vocals up in my headphones', you don't have to interfere with your mix that you've been working on, just the send level for that track ;)

hope that helps.

Interfaces may have two outs labeled "main outs" just for your convenience.

But outs are outs and it JUST DOESN'T MATTER as long as you have the sequencer pointed to the ones the speakers are connected to....
