help, sound-buzz!

hello everyone, ive just bought a creative soundlblaster live 5.1 digital.

when i use line-in to record my guitar, there is a buzzing noise, sounds as an electrical-hum. as if the computer isnt grounded or something?!
as soon as i take my hands of the strings, the humming starts again...
it wasnt this way with the built-in soundcard of the motherboard...


any thoughts appreciated !

The line in on that card is stereo ( i think) So the card is looking for sound on one leg that is set to ground at the guitar. THis makes the whole guitar cable an antenna to pick up noise.
The other thing is make sure you are plugged in to the line and not the mic in. It dosen't work well.
And finnaly, if you are plugging your guitar DIRECTLY into the SB you are going to have matching problems. The signal from a guitar is small, a line in signal is much larger. If you plug your guitar in to the sound card, the signal to noise ratio will be very bad.
