From what I understand, most laptops don't have a line in on the soundcard. Mine is a Compaq and it only has headphone and mic jacks. I use a firepod for input since I have firewire. I also have an M-Audio MobilPre, which uses the USB port. It only does 16-bit and has a limit of 2 channels, where the Firepod will do 24-bit and has 8 mic pres. Costs a bit more, though.
