First, Hello to you all. I am happy to be apart of the forum. Hope I can learn from you all.

This is my situation. My friend and I have been jamming for a while and record our sessions on a tascom 4 track, I play guitar he drums. Its not the best thing in the world but works for now, plus we don't really know how to use it to its full potential. I would like to start recording on my computer. Its got a PIII 866 with currently 128megs, 10G HD, your basic soundcard, on a Soyo board using Win2K. What can I do to start recording on this PC? Can I integrate the 4 track and the PC togethger? We, as many other musicians, are on a tight budget. What could we do now and when we have some cash to spend. I am thinking around maybe like $200 at most, but will upgrade here and there.

Any and all help is most appreciated.

You could use the computer.

In fact, I wouldn't even use the 4-track. I would just use the computer.

BTW, how many tracks do you record at a time?

If you record 4 tracks at a time, I would suggest that you purchase another soundcard.

If you are on a budget, then you should settle for recording two tracks at a time, until you save up some more money

Once the money is there, you might want to take a look at some of the multi-tracking programs, such as..... Sonar, Logic, Vegas, Cubase, Nuendo, etc.

You will also want to purchase an editor. I would suggest Sound Forge 6.0.

Like I said before, if money is an issue, you can download some freeware/shareware.

wow!.....above and beyond the call of duty!!.....nice work man that is great to see.....and a big reason i love this place so much......and no attitude.....no 20 questiond for the newbie...no...please utilize the search engine for 2 weeks trying to find an answer that makes sense because your new and most of it is not exactly EASY to understand.......

Welcome Grashper. I would tend to agree with dropping the Tascam altogether. We used to record to a portastudio and recently converted over to a PC DAW, best thing we ever did. But your right, there's some research to be done and you've definitely found the right place to do it. Good luck! :D
