Mixing and Mastering.
This is a song by my band SEROTONE. It is probably the heaviest song we have as we arent usually so heavy, but a bit of variety keeps things interesting.
Any comments on the production of this would be greatly apreciated, Cheers.

song is called "FADING"

this rocks man... I don't usually listen to this type of music, but i'd like to hear the main guitar down a bit, and the vocals louder. I like the part where you break it down and slow it down a bit. cool little tune!

Thanks alot Robertt8. Good to hear some positive feedback. Yeah the breakdown is cool and quite melodic. SEROTONEs album will be finished in about 2 months at the very most and we are all very excited about releasing it.
Anyone got any comments about the recording/mixing at all?

ecktronic, another good one. Some of the tracks seem a bit loud compared to the vocals when it is really happening. The vocals don't really get drowned out, but some edge gets taken off. If you did this on purpose, it works, but if you want the vocals to stand out a bit more, you might bring the guitar and bass down a little, and see how everthing gels.

Very cool song.

Hi

Very good song, well recorded and mixed. We can hear all the instruments which is good. Did you compress the kick ? My guess would be yes if I compare the kick with the one in "Blinded".

/Jack Real.

Jack Real, I always compress the kick drum. I wasnt too sure about compression settings at the time of mixing as i havent been recording for long, but i now know more about compression. Ill let you into a secret about Blinded, the kick drum was about 6 different samples i took from a live recording i did of my mates band "LIVE TRACK". I just copied in the kicks exactly as they were played changing the volumes of each kick hit to match with the real recording of the kick track! This is the only sampling i have ever done and probably the last as i aint too into sampling, i prefer to keep it real as it sounds better real.
Dogman, I did mean to have the vox at this level. I find it realy hard to mix vocals right. If i boosted the vox more they would sound out of place so i left them at this level. They still seem a little out of place and stand out too much, but this is EQ problems which i havent got too grips with yet. Could be too much reverb also as i usually go over the top on reverb, but im learning.
Got 4 whole days in the studio to record a new track for the album and an acoustic track, so i will have plenty time to mix the new tracks.
Cheers all, greatly appreciated.

Hey, I know what you mean. We are all learning. I have so much trouble with eq, and finding the right spots for things. I either end up with a very dry mix, or something that is really messy. My voice is so bad, I always try and bury it, so when I hear a decent voice in a song, I always want it more to the front. Probably not the best advice.
Anyway, cool tune, and keep up the good work. Gives me more music to listen to, and maybe I'll learn something. :D

Cheers again Dogman for the kind words. I will post my new tracks for the album in about a month once they have been tracked and mixed etc.

With heavy music being my specialty, I respectfully disgree whole heartedly. The vocals are already too loud, in my opinion, the kick is not "impacting" enough - although the snare is good, and the main guitar is also not present enough. Nor is the bass. The sound QUALITY is very good though. To my ears it sounds as if it was mixed at a low volume, with the vocals WAY "up front" as opposed to "in" the mix. But it all depends on what the client wants the end product to be......

Cheers Zed10R. ITs an EQ issue with the vocals. I think i need to make some small cuts on the guitars so that the vocals have more space. I think that the vocals are at the right volume but could do with a bit of EQ changing. Thats my down side. I wasnt happy with the drums really and i didnt put a limiter on the kik or snare. But on more listening i think the sanre sound is alright. Its got that rough non polished sound with a bit of a ring to it in a good way. The bass guitar was through a Peavey amp so i couldnt get a decent tone. I did as good as i could with the sources.
Thanks all.
