wow...dunno what happened there??

These are the first recordings I done when I got my recording gear 18 months ago!

They're pretty (very!?) bad and I know there are lots of problems with them but give them a listen.

I wrote/played/recorded/mixed them all myself.

My vocals are awful.....they will make you all feel so much better about your own!!

Mixes & the songs themselves....let me know what you think.

I will listen to the other 2 in a miniute. The recording and musicianship all good here. You have nothing to be ashamed of here, Charva

i listened to someone's daughter............nice song man.......i don't know what the deal is, but a lot of people are posting great stuff and saying that they suck.......you should be confident in your abilities because this is good........good singing too.............my only complaint would be the wave noises at the beginning and end, i think this can be effective if the sound clip is VERY original, but the water thing is kind of played out by now......in fact, the only time i think this effect was used really well was with oasis' champagne supernova, and that's only because the lead guitar almost has this 'watery' tone (for lack of a better term) that helps bring it all together.................nice job
 
You have some very strong songwriting skills...good melodies, and the recordings are heads and shoulders above most FIRST ATTEMPTS that I've heard here...and certainly much better than my first recordings. Your vocal needs some work, but you've recognized that, so I'm sure not gonna' harp on it.

I'd like to hear some more recent recordings.

sonwriting is well done....im a lyrics guy and this stands out to me.. nice job.
git solo doesnt stray from the context of the song....perfect.
pretty good drum sound too.....i like the ending where it all drops out except the vox....man i like this song alot...im gonna listen to the other ones...

Hey, thanks guys....there's some great stuff on this board so I was a bit concerned about putting my own tunes up...I thought I'd get a roasting!!

Yeh, the vox is where I need to put in a lot more work & the 'waves' thing....it seemed like a good idea at the time:)

I haven't been writing for quite a while because of work commitments & any recording time I've had has been mainly sort of test recordings & quick demo's for other bands (those recordings really suck!) in a bid to improve my recording skills.

I've got the bug again though and I intend to start doing my own stuff again soon, so I'll get them posted when I'm done.

For info, the 3 tracks here were recorded direct to my Korg D16 with a SM58 for all the vocals & guitar. They were mixed on my home stereo!

I've got some better gear now so hopefully that will help.

Please keep the comments coming guys.

I listened to the first two. First off, the songs are good. No question. I liked the ocean tide thing, personally. that and the strings gave it an ethereal feel. I'll spare you the specific compliments and get to the critical stuff.

Vocally, I see what you mean. What I'm hearing is a singer with range who doesn't have the lung capacity to sustain extended notes. I would practice vocal scales and learn to better utilize the diaphragm to properly hold notes. Tricks include holding your hand over the top of your stomach, standing tall with shoulders back. you shoulders should NOT raise up on your inhale and your lungs should fill up like one of the respirators on ER.

Personally, I'm trying to recover my lungs after six years of intentional smoke inhalation. Even with a new vocal coach, I still have the some of the same fluttering notes so that's why this performance stuck out to me.

Good tunes otherwise. You definitely are on the right track. just needs polish.

I've been a smoker for quite a few years & I have a lot of trouble singing in tune, especially on the extended notes.

I can't afford to pay for a vocal coach but I guess there are loads of websites, books & CDs where I can get help on building my voice etc.

Thanks for your comments on my songs- it gives me a push to get writing again when I see that you people at least like the tunes.

Now all I have to do is sort out my vocals & improve the recordings. Heh, easy eh.

:( sadly, I know from experience. Still fighting it myself...

What you might want to do, (this is what I do) is trade guitar or whatever lessons for vocal lessons.

It works out real well as we are both are flat broke and have a skill the other wants. Chances are you're better at your instrument than *the vocalist* is so you'll be set.

good tunes though. I'm jealous of the arrangements,

Hey man this song is a blast. Lot's of fun. So how were the drums recorded? To me they sound like they should come forward a bit. Maybe back off the reverb a touch (if that's what I hear on them), or just nudge the level. I like the vocal part. Would have been cool to see you lay this track down!

I'm not sure which of the tracks you mean but I programmed all my drums from scratch on my drum machine. Takes me forever but it's worth it.
