Harvey G comb filter question

Hey Harvey, I sent you some e-mail off line but have been thinking about what you said. We were talking about two identical tracks in stereo one slid out a few miliseconds used to thick'n up a acoustic guitar track.

While this is a widely used concept, you stated that if it was summed to mono for a AM station or TV show, you would loose almost your entire signal. And if you reverse the polarity you would create a filtered effect. (Hope I quoted you right)

Considering the fact that we still have mono stations and devices out there, there is some merrit to this discussion. I'm not much for the real technical detail like numbers, but I know what I hear. So can you give me a quick lesson in comb filtering and discuss a little about the delay subject above. Much appreciated. My "real world" experiences (as you stated) could use a quick lesson in the above.
