Oh my.

Ahhh so there are, that link just didn't work for me for some reason i had to change it to http://www.locall.aunz.com/~johnsay/Guruland/
before the updates came up.

But now that's out the way... It looking crazy from the updates. One does wonder what the final construction cost of such a huge project would be??

Kym.

Wow!

This is lookin' H-U-G-E John! Wish I had the money to build myself something like that...

Hey John the photos are on the way when I work out which ones you don't have.

For those viewing the pictures and thinking that Guruland is Huge
It realisticaly would only be comfortable for about 5 musicians at once

The actual recording studio, being seperated with a drum room and vocal booth isn't as big as you would think even though.the total area is approx 96sq ft.(but there is a private bar room with mic and headphone lines)

As for the total cost of such a project - I'm not sure yet , but I know it would be cheaper to build a new house. (It really would be).

Anyone thinking about having John design them a studio I can not recommend him highly enough, his knowledge ,experience and general expertise is second to none.

Any advice John gives -You don't need a second opion because he is right and totally committed to all his projects

All the best

Agreed... I'm currently in the process of commissioning John to design Blue Bear Sound for its new location........!

John/Kevin a couple of questions.
Why is every second stud in the walls a double?
Where in Melbourne did you source the rubber for underneath the framing from?
What size rockwool are you using and where did you source it from?
Do you plan to float the floors?

Regards Simon

Hi Simon,
Every second stud is double because of the weight of the plaster.
16mm firecheck plaster is very heavy. It took 4 of us to lift each sheet into position. 40 sheets weighs 2.5 tonnes. So far we have used 156 sheets and still have to plaster the outside walls (approx another 55 sheets) Thats a lot of weight.

The rubber is both underneath and above the framework. We went to Clark rubber and purchased big sheets of 8x4 foam rubber then cut them down to 4 inch strips.By doing it this way saved at least $1800 (I'm showing my age I don't know metric)

The rockwool is R2.5 and comes in packs of 6, it is available from Bunnings wharehouses at approx $28 per bag. I've been buying it at 80 bags at a time, which is a truckload, I get it at a slightly better price, but not much. Rockwool is banned on all Victorian building sites ,so you will need some mates to help you install it, Don't get talked into using anything else!

Only the drum room and the vocal booth are on floating floors. The whole studio is on concrete slab (8 inches ) and is above a mechanics workshop. The room already floats-Can't wait to see it rock

If your in Melboune and wan't to check the place out let me know-
because this truly is the greatest place on earth

All the very best
Kev

So Bruce ,Is the Queen sending you there to the land down under? :D

Well , actually I was hoping the Bear would fly me to Canada :):)

Rockwool isn't banned in Queensland cos I got some off a building site to reline my stove just recently. They were using it to isolate home units.

Kev's right - it's way better than than it's nearest competitor.

cheers

Lucky you, in that you can afford such awesome talent.

Excuse me while I pout and go back to using deck screws and 2x4's :)

Awesome work John, awesome.

I've never been to Canada. Can I come with John? We are a team

All the best

OIY!!!

If you are flying John and Kevin over, then you better include me in the package.............no way do I want to be the lone Aussie in this here studio forum in their abscence:) :) .

It's lonely enough when John goes walkabout or his phoneline is down:)

Looks like we'd better fly the Blue Bear to OZ.

The weather is definitely better :):)

John

That'd be nice, but that won't get my studio built then, will it!!!!

;)

Building the studio is only part of the fun The real interest is with the people you meet building it.
Imagine your neighbours when they come in contact with 3 aussies.
Do we need to bring anything? (cash, clothes, sleeping bags ect.)
Pls confirm flight details.

All the best
Kev:)

My best advice for anyone visiting Canada is dont drink the water and eat the burritoes, and whatever you do dont break the law or have a medical emergency.

Or is that Mexico? Oh well same thing.:D
