Just got back to the Board. Some good conversation here, Boingo and Zap. Any ideas for a cab for a 10" Carvin PS10 speaker? Mainly looking for clean tones for recording in a small space, although versatility is always a plus. Any ideas/input is greatly appreciated!

I've said this once before. I took measurements of a 1960 2x12 marshall cab, and made a remotely close replica. I do like a large cab verses a small one for a closed back. I used jensen mod 12 speakers (35watt). I just slapped a stain finish on it and some grill cloth. I use this cab for any type of music. I use it more than my old marshall 4x12 with the 75 watt celestions when they were made in the UK. My DIY cab sparkles.

PS l have plenty of red grill cloth left if you are interested. (paypal) I will sell it cheap. I got a sweet deal on it.

I'm not sure what the enclosure recommendation is for that driver. You might want to contact Carvin tech support. They may be able to recommend something for you - closed vs. open back, etc.

This is definitely the safest route. The tuning of a larger sealed cabinet will usually make the resonant frequency of a guitar speaker a non-issue (and allow you to swap out various drivers without having to worry about resonance frequency issues).

Here you go....http://www.webervst.com/vstbbs/bbs.html

Ask your question's there: pro's as well as DIYers hang there. I can tell you from experience, the easiest way is to find a cab you like and copy the measurments.

The dudes on the Weber enclosure board can give you all the construction/finishing advise you need. One thing I can tell you is that MDF is NOT for guitar cabs. You want your cab to resonate and add to the tone. MDF is for audio applications. Old Fender amps were solid pine. The best cabs made these days are voidless, 13 ply baltic birch plywood or a solid wood, depending on what kind of tone you are after.

If you are interested in raw speakers, email me and I can point you in the right direction. I know a few speaker makers, but I don't want to be doing any spamming here.

Thanks for the link and the advice BTO!

Reading back in this thread I noticed you want to build a 2x12. I built an oversize 2x12 based on the Germino model. It's basically an oversize Marshall 1936 cab. I loaded it with British made Celestion G12H80's when Avatar was blowing them out a couple of years ago. Lots of thump out of this puppy! I built it for much less than $300 CDN: wood , hardware and speakers.

I'll look up the actual dimensions and post them for you. If you want.

Thanks, BTO, but I'm actually building a 1X10. I think the original poster may have been building a 2X12. I may just take the dimensions from the Emerysound and try that.
