grohl is cooler

Anyone that revives the early 80s metal days is cool as hell in my book. I cant wait to get that album. :p :p

Dave played drums on the first two Foo Fighter records; "My Hero" is a slightly complicated double bass part. it may not be Pantera, but it's tough to keep a slower time signature with a double bass with all the toms, hats, and snare going on as well. both Dave and Taylor Hawkins, the Foos' current drummer and Alanis's former drummer, use double bass pedals in studio and live-- ( QUOTE) --man you should go back and listen to hero . you think thats double bass playing! dughh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would definitely go for Grohl. I agree with the post regarding Probot. That is some really vicious drumming (and a really good send-up to the metal before him). But, in all fairness, I don't like Disturbed, so I don't listen to them in detail.

I have been watching Dave Grohl play for about 20 years. (we both played in the same band and diffrent times back then) Dave has been an amazing musician at the age of 14.

You guys need to read up on Mr.Grohl! In an interview with AP and in the newer Modern Drummer he talks about recording the cymbals separately from the drums on the QOTSA record. He also talks about not being able to play double bass at all and never doing it on any albums. The killing joke record that he did is awesome, but the drums are all pro tooled. Both of the articles are really great reads, I love his ideas about making people want to air drum and not playing for technicality bullshit.

He is a great man and makes great music!
Scream is one of my favorite Grohl Bands
Seriously get those articles and read them, so many good points......

This comparison may be a little unfair, as some of you have said, but I think for a different reason. Dave Grohl has clearly had a lot more time to develop and grow as a musician over the years. His more recent albums reflect that. But look at the early Nirvana albums, including Nevermind, and forget about how they were recorded or how the drums sound. A lot of the playing is high energy but pretty basic stuff that works well with the music. A drumming legend? Hardly. Thinking back at that era I felt the Pearl Jam drummer clearly showed more style and skill.

i realize this was posted long ago, but anyone who feels this way needs to read the MD article. from the way dave learned to drum (listening to hardcore and metal and the like), he says hardcore stuff comes easier to him than something like the verses to "Teen Spirit."

I love Pearl Jam , but David Abbruzzese(if thats the drummer your speaking of) was pretty horrible all he did was hit the cymbals hundreds of times per song. Jack Irons was great in Pearl Jam.. and their current drummer Matt Cameron of Soundgarden is also amazing.

Dave Grohl was amazing in Nirvana... Dale Crover was better than Dave and still is. Dave is just whoring himself to everything nowadays.

Disturbed will always be horrible :)

Honestly, no matter how good the drummer is, even if he is the best in the world by a long shot, Disturbed is still one crappy band that doesn't even try. Why does this thread exist?!?

Their songs are like a joke! I listened to that "Down With The Sickness" or whatever that song is called that they are popular for all the way through just the other day. They're always on MTV2 playing like all their videos in a row, so even though I don't listen to them and what I just said might suggest I heard them only once, I am familiar with them. I thought I would be nice this time. It came up on some music channel on my friend's satellite TV, and I sat through the whole thing so that I could be respectful and give it a fair critique.

It just made us laugh. That's the best they can do, and it's why they are FAMOUS????? It really is just terrible. People honestly call that song writing, and take it seriously? And those guys are how old? They look like they are around 30, but make something a band of 10 year olds with very limited knowledge of music would as a joke for a school talent show. Wtf?!?

Ghrol's drumming on that 2003 Killing Joke CD was awesome. Not only did he manage to capture one of the biggest drum sounds i've ever heard, but everything he plays.....ahhh just so good.

Awesome

I think all would agree that Dave Grohl is great and blows disturbed's drummer away, Even if you like disturbed you must atleast agree dave is better

Yeah, Awesome

Yeah, you're right Digging up posts that are half a year old is awesome. I think we can all agree on that.

Uuugghh!! This is the biggest Beavis and Butthead question, ever!!

Grohl. For the style any way. The guy is just tremendously versatile and really really steady. Excellent studio drummer IMHO......am I the only one that knows or remembers that he played drums on the Tenacious D record? Yeah. Versatile. lol.

I wish Grohl would give Taylor Hawkins the boot from Foo Fighter records. I know Taylor may have a few fans out there, but I think his drumming SUCKS. Put Dave back in the drum chair for all the Foo's recordings.

i think that grohl is overrated. he's a decent drummer but i don't see what all the fuss is, he's just decent. i've heard a lot of his stuff and none of it has ever really grabbed my attention and made me think "wow, that guys good". IMHO andolls herrick who played for the band chimaira is one of the best drummers around. he's got insanely good chops but still always plays in the context of the song. just my 2c
