does Grohl play the QOTSA shows???? my girl bought me qotsa ticketsand i know that the foo fighters are in town at the same time, but not playing the same night.... i heard they (foo fighters and qotsa) do double billings in the u.s. and grohl plays in both bands...

personally i was never overly impresed with grohl, and infact was quite dissapointed when i heard he was going to be playing on the qotsa album... but now i am a big fan... i think he should quit foo fighters and do qotsa full time, it really lets him unleash his percussive creativity...

Unfortunately for you, he makes way more money on the Foo Fighters stuff.

you know, I think the only drum threads that people respond to are ones with "Who's the best" as the title....

Have you heard Grohl's drumming on the new Queens of the Stone Age album?

no shit! i just got that cd yesterday and was instantly in love with the drumming! gotta admit i didn't know much about dave grohl before seeing his name on the cd but whoever he is, he nailed it on that album.

dry as toast mix on those suckers, but it sounds perfect that way. i would like to know if this is a triggering mix or a real mix. any way to find out?

really don't mean to sound like a prick, but have you heard of a band called "nirvana"... i know it sounds mean but its not supposed to

btw... only thrity something days until i see these suckers live, time to start the jealousy poll :D

i have seen a disturbed live show on hbo and i got to tell ya..they are a tight band live..even the singer can growl one word and sing the next like he does on record..so i am not a big fan...but have a lot of respect for them

so i dont think the disturbed drummer is all that bad

This comparison may be a little unfair, as some of you have said, but I think for a different reason. Dave Grohl has clearly had a lot more time to develop and grow as a musician over the years. His more recent albums reflect that. But look at the early Nirvana albums, including Nevermind, and forget about how they were recorded or how the drums sound. A lot of the playing is high energy but pretty basic stuff that works well with the music. A drumming legend? Hardly. Thinking back at that era I felt the Pearl Jam drummer clearly showed more style and skill.

Now keeping in mind that Disturbed has only released maybe their 2nd album? I think he's doing pretty well. A lot of the drum tracks on "Sickness" are inspiring. Apples and Oranges here maybe, so I didn't vote.

Overall talent, unquestionably Dave Grohl has done what a lot of us would like to be able to do. He awesome and somewhat unparalleled in contemporary music. I have to admit that I'm a big Foo Fighters fan.

Maybe, but the best drummer is the drummer that plays the line that fits and helps the song, not the one that plays the most technically challenging part. I'd bet that Grohl was capable of the same stuff when he was with nirvana that he is now.

I have never listened to Disturbed, Just their name says "New Metal Wannabie's" frankly if thats wrong i don't care, they sound like a bunch of pretenders. If Dave Grohl auditioned for my band i'd snap him up. Any man that's jammed with Cobain has got to have picked a thing or two up, and the Foo Fighters arn't bad either. I think People underestimate Dave's importance to Nirvana, you only have to listen to Chad Channings drumming on the first album to notice a huge difference. Dave Rocks!!

Quite frankly i do not think that Daves drumming is anything to brag about. He is very, very basic. And basic playing is good...if that is what the music calls for. The drummer from disturbed, although i am not a huge fan, i think he can hold his own quite well. The drumming on their second album is quite good. He plays in syncopated rythyms with the guitar lines and lays the backbone quite well. Some of his slower double bass drumming in triplet patterns is a little tricky. I really think that he is more technically proficient a drummer than Dave grohl. But I FEEL THAT BOTH ARE GOOD AT WHAT THEY DO.

Slipknots drummer kills em all

I agree with the comment made about Slipknots main drummer Joey...but the other two side percussionists aren't really amazing at all. Joey from Slipknot would have to get my vote for the most technically skilled, and tasteful heavy drummer of recent times...hands down.

Grohl a drumming God? Oh ofcourse no way. Steady, heavy hitter? YES! The drummer from Disturbed has better foot work. But Grohl is WAY more tasteful. Niether drummer is what I would call hall of fame worthy. (Rush, Dream Theater, etc)

Grohl is the current overall rock king at the moment, no doubt. He's made some good decisions on what to get involved with. Overall I am very impressed with his skills at song writing.

Grohls drums in "No one knows" sound very processed, sounds like a slight slap back echo to fatten the drums and some heavy compression, but I doubt they are triggered sounds.

Has anyone ever seen Grohl do a lengthy drum solo????

Carter Beauford is one of my favorites. But what the hell do I know, I'm a guitar player.

i don't like Grohl
i don't like nirvana
i don't like the Foo fighters
i like qotsa

but grohl still sucks

That was the first track that I fell in love with on that album.
But, is it just me or does it sound almost too complex to play.
How the hell does he hit all those toms and still keep the crash going???

I think Grohl is an amazing drummer, like S.C.U.D. said listening to Nirvana
without Dave is quite a different experience.

jmproductions- Sure Nevermind's drums aren't all that stellar and from what I know were heavily processed,
but In Utero, now those are some DRUMS!

Anybody remember when Tom Petty played "You don't know how it feels" on SNL and had Grohl as his drummer? That was probably the simplest beat ever, but man did Dave make it thump!
