Greenish Les Paul fretboard inlays

I'm always hearing how ugly they are but never saw them for myself until today. I went to GC for some strings and they had a batch of used Les Pauls on diplay($3000!!!) and some of them had those greenish tinged fretboard inlays. Ass ugly! What were they thinking? Especially when paired up with those greenish Kluson keystone tuners which look like big wads of snot. Makes an expensive guitar look like a cheap toy.

Just had to rant. :D
 
What model LP has greenish tuners and inlays?? I must have missed that model!!!! (Thankfully) :eek: :eek:

Wow!!!!!!! Me and Hix agreeing on something!!!!!!!! Must be a full moon or something!!!!!!!! :)

You are not referring to Paua shell are you? That is a breed of abalone from New Zealand, some people like it, I'd rather eat the paua.

I don't know what it is. Of course, it's a matter of taste, subjective, and obviously lots of people must like it, but I was immediately turned off. I literally winced.

I don't know if it was a specific model or a specific year when Gibson employed that ghastly stuff.

I kinda had to pass by it real quick, like it was Kryptonite or something. :D

I love Abalone...my Samick has Abalone inlay encircling the body, on top of the ivory looking binding....and it is awesome looking. Haven't had one person say it is ugly. They all say it is a really pretty guitar. It is. I wish I could take a pic and put it up for you to see.

No, it's fake aged plastic. Well, the plastic is real, the age is fake. Not big on it myself, but then, cream and butterscotch guitars, as well as cherry sunburst and honey/lemondrop bursts are all factory fresh versions of aged finishes. They are sort of the first relics!

Les Pauls are using plastic inlays now????
 
'Tis true. That's why the new ones are green, to look like funked-up old plastic ones. Sorry to be the messenger. [ducks, runs, weaves]
 
Those would be Les Paul Classics. I have one. The inlays in mine have more of a yellowed, aged look than some of the green screamers I've seen on newer versions. The last Les Paul to use real MOP inlays was the Deluxe back in the early 70's.

I wonder why fender plastic ages into a cream color and Gibson plastic ages into a snot green color.

Food for thought.

The epiphones and REALLY snotty! A bit of overkill there IMO.
