Now I'll take a look at bargains and second hand trade sites to find something among the brands and models you mention.

Here is what I found on the Internet reading a user review of a CAD M179 mike (the reviews was uploaded in 2007):

"Contrary to the product description, all CAD mikes are made in China now, and receive only batch-level inspection in the U.S. (according to CAD Sales)"
 
I am a fan of the Blue Bird. For $299.99 you really can't complain.
