K, i was wondering what you think of these choices of mics, i'm starting a home studio and planning head, please suggest any other mics as long as they are below 300 dollars. I'll be recording hard rock into a delta 44.

2 SP B-1- overheads, vocals? guitar cabs?
MXL67-vocals...what else?
AKG D112- bass drum
3 SM57- drums, guitar/bass cabs, what else?

Starter mic kit ideas:

Vocal mic - B1 or V67 (around $80 each) (could get 2 for stereo)
Guitar/snare/toms - SM57's good - how many do you need though? ($80 each)
Kick/bass cab - D112 good, ATMpro25 good and cheaper ($80)
Overheads/acoustic instruments - MXL603's ($49 each, get 2)

The vocal mics could be upgraded - studio projects C1, 4033 off ebay, etc.
This selection will give you a great start though

where can i buy the mxl603 with just that mic......every site is that with with the mxl2003???

www.shreveaudio.com had them for $49US, but it looks like they've taken them off that sale - you could email them and ask. They're great mics (I'm very happy I paid $70 each for my pair 2 months ago.

The 603 sale is definitely over although I've heard mention of the stereo pair going for $139 there. I have my doubts about that but it can't hurt to ask.

Here's a nice little article about putting together a mic cabinet:

I do use the 603's for drum overheads (4-mic technique - kick snare and pair of OH's) - have only done one day long session with them, but it sounds great to me! I know Dot has recomended B1's for overheads, but I haven't had a chance to try 'em.

The 603's complement my C1 and NT1 really well.
