Can we end this now?

BlueBear, As I thought, you could not even show me ONE post. As usual you just avoid the question. But I don't think we should continue to pollute this (or every other thread we bump into eachother in) with this silly nonsence any more. If you feel like attacking me futher, then why don't you start a new thread called "Why Bore-ey is a moron" and then you can post in there everytime you feel like it. Seems like you have a need for that. Then maybe we can keep threads free from this personal fight. Of course you can attack what I write in the future, but don't drag up old stuff all the time! That kind of behaviour belongs in kindergarten. I don't mean you are the only one responsible for this. It's not one persons fault that two fight, so I'm also responsible. I am willing to forgive you everything you have called me if we end this here. And I am sorry for things I have acused you for. It's not my buissnes to judge people. So, sorry Bruce for everything I have written to offend you! Can we please end this now? I am holding out an open hand here... Do you want to shake it?

/Anders

Boray:
Try this... pad everything you say with:

'Correct me if i'm wrong'

or

'In my opinion'

or

'I'm no expert but I thought...'

And if you are shown to be wrong... dont change it to a semantic arguement or an ... I am right in this special case type of arguement... just say, 'shit... I didnt see it that way, learn something new every day.'

your not a moron... but you sound like one when you refuse to be wrong. I bet even Blue bear is wrong from time to time...

Anyway when you discuss / argue, do it to learn or test your ideas.
When the only thing that is important to you is to defend your position / idea, even if it is a totally stupid one, you usually end up sounding like an ass.

Yea, where have you been, SoMM ? ? :D :D lol. Did you hear Bush wants to invade Iraq? And Kennedy was assassinated! :D

It took me that long to type it out...as usual:o

But yes, Chessrock is 100% on the ball. I may have been overly wordy but the reality is..ya alls don't have flat ears:p
You brain cannot invent frequencies to counter balance inadequacies in your hearing. The color blindness isn't such a good analogy because true color blindness is void of color, everything is black and white. Blind people shouldn't paint portraits and tone deaf people should mix.

Monitors are all biased to some designers ears, its not just specs. If you look at the specs of all the high end and medium range monitors, the differences might be miniscule or neglible on paper and invisible to the listener. Ive heard crappy mixes on good monitors and good mixes on crappy monitors, Im sure everyone here can vouch for similar experiences, it comes down to experience or plain natural talent in alot of cases.
Blue Bear can squeeze a good mix out of YSM1's or Mackies and any other monitor because he understands the underlying principals and uses his experience to make sound judgments. How many home recordists are actually tone deaf...listen to their mixes and it becomes obvious they need another hobbie or job. I can mix better on headphones better than alot of people with monitors. I think alot of time on this bbs we get into tizzies because our minds are less open, and stating anything in audio as defacto will always rile up those with enough experience to know that nothing is defacto in audio. The more you learn the less you know. Back to the cave;)

hey, cavedog...

if you read any of my typical posts, you'll see i use almost as many (...'s) as you do! i started to feel a little proprietory about them as sort of my signature punctuation. so i was jealous that you managed to cram more of them into your post than i ever could! :D

my pointing it out was no more than light-hearted jesting, and was certainly not meant in a mean spirited way. Maybe your reaction is based on some negative interaction we had in the past? Although to be honest, I don't remember ever feuding with you. i never dreamed my comments would be interpreted as a personal attack, or some sort of variation on class warfare...
(i've never had an office job either, by the way...)

Gotta remember to use those damn smiley faces. Too many thin-skinned posters around here! ;)

Gunter, That's some good advices (that Bruce should read as well). But when I say something like "to my experiance", Bruce just pops in and says "but you have no experiance, moron". So that doesn't help much.

I do discuss to learn. And when I have learned something (by understanding the theory behind it), then I hold on to it until proven differently. When you are convinced, I see no meaning in using phrases like the ones you suggested. I'm for example still convinced that playing something at half volume over a n-bit D/A only uses half of the dynamic range, meaning it could just as well have been played with a n minus 1 bit D/A. When people say this is bullshit, should I then lie and say "'shit... I didnt see it that way, learn something new every day.'" just to preserve the peace? You souldn't be called a moron by anyone just because he is frustrated over his inability of convincing you.

Bruce, My peace offering still remains!

Boray:
I don’t want to get into anything here... all I want to say is that until you have been successful in the field for years, you shouldn't allow yourself to become convinced so strongly about anything.

Being convinced is being closed to learning. Yeah, there are some facts that never change… but intelligent people keep open minds (that’s how they get to be intelligent.)

I did not at all suggest that you should back down even if you feel you are correct. I do suggest you criticize and analyze all your theories and facts 3 times as hard as BB will ever before you post them to the boards.
Question your ‘facts’ before you ever give others the chance to. Filter your own BS. That'll keep the bad men away.

What I did say is that if you really are wrong, don’t be a dick and keep arguing. Most people are going to think you’re an ass if you do. Learn to see and accepts the faults in your theories, and don’t be afraid to change them and thank the person for pointing out your error.

Anyway, just friendly advice… you can take it or leave it.

Do you make commision at Gtr center? I trusted my ears and still keeped my mind on my dwindling cash in my wallet. I got a pair of used JBL studio monitors for 100 bucks. They are the kind that have been used in recording studios the world over(not sure anymore) have you listened to any new mixes coming out in recent years? They suck...... Oh I did buy a pair of sennheiser hd-280 pros at guitar center. They were on sale for 100 bucks.
Myx

I don't make commision.........i address people to their needs and go from there. I have sold many different monitors to many different people, and when they are getting something like a pair of SP-5B's or 20/20's or TR8N's or M1's they are pretty much wanting to skim by without giving their wallet away. Those who come to me and say,"dude.......i seriously need some good monitors", that means business.........this dude wants to spend the money to get the proper gear. Thats when i show them why you pay for what you get with the KRK's, Mackie's, Halflers etc. Im telling you people.............don't go around saying cheap monitors do just as good as expensive ones do.........you'll look and sound like a god damn idiot.........there is a reason they cost that much either them being cheap or expensive.

The other factor is ..................what ones sound "right" to you.

It was 6 months ago I bought my Alesis M1 active Mk2. At the exchange rate it was then, it was more like $650. (5995 Swedish crowns). They still have this price.

(Btw, my post was not directed to you, but to the one that thought he was funny by suggesting I should show my monitors).

zallen,

as a professional salesman it would behoove you to know that prices on any particular piece of gear vary widely from country to country. to ridicule someone in another country for paying more than what you would pay in the USA is a little silly.

think of how much less Boray would pay for Swedish massages than you!

i dont feel guilty............he didn't say anything about him being from another country before i made the reply. And why would anyone want to pay for a massage when your girl could do it for free : )

Im not out to make money.......i care less....its just a job that i have to do till i get done with school, and if i can help people get the good shit for their projects along the way then good for them.

he doesn't have to... his location is right under his name.

by the way, the guitar center sales force in boston DOES make a commission. that's why they jump all over eachother trying to be the first to get to me when i walk in the store. they never know when i'm going top pull the trigger on something big, like a couple of months ago when i bought two Yamaha S90's.

which is why im glad I don't make commission, so i dont have to look like an ass, plus have to give in to grinders that think they deserve a better price than anyone else. Those peole suck bad. Not every GC store runs the employees with commission!

i guess i understand that from your perspective, although i would think that if you outsold every other salesman/saleswoman in the store you would want to be rewarded for it. But maybe you're not in it for the money... i guess your motivation must be service to the public and the chance to hear all those great undiscovered talents wailing away on the floor model guitars and amps? :p

meanwhile, from a customer point of view, i like to think that if i average $1000/month in gear purchases at a store, that i deserve a little extra consideration over someone who comes in once a year to buy a pair of drumsticks. like bending store policy to let me take home a few pieces to audition, for instance. if there were no commissions, i don't think i'd get the extra service.

sorry if you feel it's beneath you to "take care of" your best customers, but i understand, because i guess without a commission, there's no real incentive. i know as a typical consumer, i'm going to go to where i'm given the best treatment.

but hey, at least grinders like me aren't making you look like an ass... (although maybe you didn't mean me... as i've been told i suck pretty good...) ;)

I do end up giving breaks for people that get lots of toys from me. I help them out as much as possible either with $ or service. What I don't do is give in to the people that expect it from me, or my best yet is the people that use god's name to get them a better deal...........if i was god and heard that i would send them to hell hahaha.

people that are sincere deserve it.......and it's very easy to tell when they are, because they come in with the money .....knowing they are going to spend a big wad of cash.......compared to those that come in way under and expect to get their dreams for half the price hahaha wtf is that.

There is an incentive for me too........we work on a team commission its a bit different ......and it gets rid of the buddy fucking stuff that regular commission creates. Anyways its still just a job to me

peace
