Gentlemen, re: Mesa Boogie amps.
To whoever said he would like to hear one before making any judgement, just turn on the radio. Their user list is like a who's who of the music world, and has been since I started using their amps in 1979.
It seems like we're comparing elephants and ants here.
On the one hand we're talking about a ratt or dod distortion pedal and then a top-of-the-line Boogie.
I bought my first Boogie unseen - I had played a friends, with a different configuration and speaker, but no real exposure to the model I was looking to get.
When mine came, I hated it for the first three days. Once I realized (by trial and error) that all the controls were interactive, things got better real fast. (They're not any more).
I have used nothing else since 1979 (except for blackface Fender's for specialty gigs) and would not use anything else.
I have used them on every type of gig from the Calgary Hockey stadium to a small intimate jazz gig, to a big-band dinner dance to a hard-rock 'where's-my-ear-protectors-this-is-gonna-be-loud' and for every gig it produces the perfect sound.
Buy a Boogie, live happily ever after. It's the last amp you'll ever have to buy.
